It seems like over the last few weeks there’s all this road work happening. I’m all for fixing the roads but it’s the worst time of year to do this with the holidays approaching. It has been taking me longer to drive anywhere near where I live and I take the bus into the city for work which is especially bad with all the extra holiday traffic. Is it because of budgetary reasons? Need to spend the money before the end of the year?

Maybe its due to the Infrastructure bill that the Biden Administration passed a while ago.

Just LOL, we complain the roads are bad and we complain when we fix them.

Yes, let’s stop one of the biggest sectors that keeps the economy moving and lay off a bunch of people who are hourly employees that don’t get paid unless they show up, so you don’t have to sit in traffic an extra 30 mins.

Due to some personal shit I've been driving into NYC at 530am-630am for two weeks straight (usually WFH). I don't know how you guys do it. Absolute kudos. From route 3 east completely being shut down, to road construction, to being re routed to the Holland Tunnel. If there is hell on earth it's North Jersey commuting during the holiday season.

Why not take the express bus? They have their own lane along 495 which allows them to speed past the snarled traffic.

They ripped up perfectly good condition streets and roads in my town in late November just to repave them...creating a traffic nightmare. I don't know what's going on the highway network, it seems like every day there's a new project underway.

There's always road work happening in New Jersey and all these projects take years. They've been fixing that overpass by exit 141 on parkway for what seems like an eternity now.

Traffic Cones are officially our new state bird.

Just wait until they start the Route 18 project that won’t be completed until 2026 at the earliest this summer. Everyone will be really happy then.

They block off all the construction zone lanes now 🚧🚧 … then it gets too cold to work on them… that way, everything can sit blocked off until May when it thaws.

Yeah, they’re probably spending money they received before the end of the year. Remember, you either use it or lose it.

Doubtful. The budget year runs from July to June.

They completely repaved 22 in bridgewater and green brook and they just did it a few years ago It was perfectly fine. Blows my mind - what a waste of money.

Could be worse, they repaved my street then a few months later came along and cut it up for gas mains and water lines, see that all the time, ridiculous

Infrastructure bill money is flowing link

The state fiscal year is a July 1 - June 30, there is no 'use it or lose it' impact in December.

They can’t pave once the Temp drops below 30F.

They’re trying to squeeze in every hour with winter layoffs are coming.

It seemed every road in downtown Newark was closed this morning for construction. I don’t know who thought it was a great idea to do the work during rush hour but I wish diarrhea upon them.

A lot of labor jobs do just that and shut down and lay off their guys through the winter. Only the more important stuff continues, so if it's still happening, there is likely a good reason for it. A lot of them are currently trying to bang out the last bits of work they can before the Temps start dropping below freezing regularly, at which point even more of these companies call off work.

Hard to answer why without knowing the details of specific sites and the work they're doing.

I noticed an increase in early summer and it seems as if it's never going to be done.

Blue collar men who work hourly in the frigid cold and blistering heat, and don’t get paid unless they show up are assholes. Got it.
