Y'all are killing my morning commute. Twice this week all lanes in one direction were shut down at Clifton. Not to mention last night's water main break in Secaucus.

Drive safer. Put those phones down and stop crashing. Please.

But if I'm not constantly scrolling TikTok I'll have to sit alone with my thoughts, and that's unbearable. /s

There is a serious mental health crisis in the human population, and I'm not just referring to homeless people screaming nonsense/violent criminals/conspiracy theorists. The overwhelming majority of people have literally 0 ability to just exist with themselves in silence for even a couple of minutes at a time. They're like toddlers, requiring constant, all-consuming stimulation or they will literally mentally break down. It's so fucking frightening how incapable people are of just being. Of concentrating on a task at hand, or reflecting on their thoughts, or considering solutions to a problem, rather than being fed video stimulus.

I work with teenagers, and there is a huge swath of kids in my classroom that will literally throw a kicking and screaming temper tantrum if they can't have their phone in front of their face. These are people that are very nearly legal adults. We see the same reactions from adults who get told "no" for even the most insane, entitled demands of retail workers, restaurant staff, and government employees trying to literally help them acquire social services.

I'm genuinely frightened going out into public now; humans, by and large, seem completely incapable of behaving like adults.

Has not changed in over 30 yeas I commuted from Bayonne to Wayne on Rt. 3 everyday for 20 years. I personally got into 2 accidents at the 3/46 merge - neither my fault and one I was lucky to walk away thanks to my seatbelt.

The worse times were bad weather days and early spring and late fall when the road glare peered over the hill near Hoffman-LaRoche.

I learned the short cuts through Clifton to bypass the routine accidents that were about 1 every 2 weeks.

Me two movement. See a few a week on route 1. Was stuck in an hour traffic two days ago. It's the me two movement and lack of patience that cause accidents and traffic. While I was stuck in traffic behind a semi, not one person wanted to let him merge into one lane. Instead, the opposite lane all tried to rush and cut the semi off attempting to get in front of semi. I have no idea where all those people thought they were going but they literally almost caused a pile up. People don't understand it's this behavior that causes the traffic in the first place.

Last night about 9 pm on RT 3 west between exits for RT 17 and RT 21 someone with old black SUV stopped in the middle lane. They only had position lights on. I was maybe 7 or 8 car behind them and luckily managed to change lanes in time without smacking in to anyone at 50 mph.

Others in front of me were not that lucky. They had to stop behind this person.

Think about GS Parkway south bound at Essex toll plaza… shit happens every morning due to the fucking toll taking system. Why the fuck they need to have 20 toll both on a 4 lane road way? Piece of shit design and implementation. Just put high speed E-ZPass tag reading system like the NY highway, and all the problems are solved.

Taking the bus has made me more aware of how prevalent the issue of distracted driving is. It's not a once in the blue moon thing, I can look over, and it seems like every 10 drivers we pass one is on his/her phone streaming or facetiming.

Reading some of the posts r/teachers it's scary at the level of societal decay happening among the younger generations enabled largely by Gen X. Even College/University is no longer safe from tech addiction.

I WFH in the northern lands, occasionally I have to drive to Secaucus for meetings and I always describe Rte 3 as Mad Max. I don't get out much though..

Literally was thinking that this morning as I was sitting in traffic at 6:45. 3 days this week RT3 was shut down. Twice east bound, once west bound. It has not been a good week for commuters on rt3

Van Houten isn’t the greatest idea. Lots of lights. One lane each way, one double parked car will block you. Also when it snows, they just plow to the sides, and it gets narrower and narrower, when you go past School 3 there’s barely room for one lane between the parked cars as you near springtime.

I’ve been noticing more and more people driving on local roads at like 15mph. That infuriating style of driving where they always have their brakes on, pause at EVERY intersection, light turns green and they SLOOOOOOWLY start moving

Sorry, no, I plan to continue crashing on Rt 3, it's the only thing bringing excitement to my humdrum existence.

Apparently they cannot. I saw 2 crashes this morning. One on the eastbound side near the 21 ramp and one westbound in Lyndhurst. This is just crazy.

Thank you for posting what I’ve been thinking about for a few years now. At first I blamed it on the pandemic lock down but I now feel it is social media driving the insanity. I wish I had THE answer.

Maybe if we could start with the next generation and teach “human” interaction vs “technology” interaction. Social Groups vs Social Media. Limit children’s phone to making voice calls only. Require adult supervision of computer time.

I remember saying to my parents “I’m bored”. The response was always “go see what is boring your friends today”. Some how being bored together was emotionally satisfying. AND G-D help us if we got ourselves into trouble, and the definition of trouble was our parents. We knew the police in town and more importantly they knew us. We were always greeted with “hello boys staying out of trouble, do your parents know what you’re up to?”

Yesterday it took me over an hour to get to work where it usually takes me 35-40 mins. I got to work 20 mins late and thank god my boss is the type who does not care, but it's still annoying. In general Rt 3 has gotten worse, especially at night. And it doesn't help that I need to drive it a lot.

I saw this the other night while driving home from work. Was the first time I witnessed it and really couldn't believe it. How can you even manage to focus on the road while facetiming? I don't get it.

Speaking of the photos and videos - a few years ago I was driving down the parkway to Cape May, and in front of me was a young girl (in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, mind you) going all over the place because she was taking selfies. My jaw nearly dropped to the floor.

Drivers think that just because their phone is mounted, they can do whatever they want. Sorry, does not work that way. Your phone should be mounted for GPS and GPS ONLY. If you cannot handle the notifications, set your phone to DND. My new car has Android Auto and even with that I can set a DND message.
