They probably racked up cancellation fees and lost non-refundable deposits from their trip, too. Even though they got the $4k back I'm sure they are still coming out financially way behind where they were before the situation. Get a lawyer because if this was a Starbucks f-up they should be giving the family some extra dough to cover those losses.

This is the worst thing... he didn't tip either

I used to work in IT. I'm sure he thought he selected the "no tip" option. But someone accidentally held their finger on the "4" key and most of these systems only allow input from the customer-facing side.

After the lawsuit they can afford to go pretty much anywhere.

I love how we have "fraud prevention" advertised by every major credit card that will let a coffee shop charge you $4k.

I don’t get why people don’t just charge shit back on their credit card. At a minimum they would have had a temporary credit for the amount and they could have went on vacation.

If he had only tipped… and checked his credit card statement. Any number of things could have alerted him to this quickly.

Most of these POS systems with these tip options are shady. Some you aren't even presented with a no tip option up front and have to select other options to give no tip. If I have to I'll start carrying cash again so I don't have to deal with this crap.
