A large part of this is because many people got dogs during covid, as a result the designated areas aren’t big enough for everyone. That leaves the owners to find alternative places to run their dogs. I think if NYC created more place for pets and their owners to go there would be less issues. Of course there is always going to be people who don’t pick up after their pets and people that break the rules but it should return to precovid like behavior which is atleast tolerable

There’s limited space in the city. I’m not sure how many more designated places there can be, at least in the parts of the city I spend time in. Over the last decade, there was a huge growth in the number of dog runs and off leash areas. Who do we take more space from? Kids? Adults playing sports? Designated wildlife areas? Cemeteries? Community gardens?

At some point, there may need to an acknowledgment of reality among dog owners - if they want lots of room for their pets to roam, a densely populated city might not be the place for them. People move to the burbs for schools and yards for their kids all the time.

Yeah, I wouldn't care so much if they cleaned up after themselves. But I see pit bulls off-leash, and that's just such a stupid idea. Like, they're cute and adorable until they're not.
