A large part of this is because many people got dogs during covid, as a result the designated areas aren’t big enough for everyone. That leaves the owners to find alternative places to run their dogs. I think if NYC created more place for pets and their owners to go there would be less issues. Of course there is always going to be people who don’t pick up after their pets and people that break the rules but it should return to precovid like behavior which is atleast tolerable

There’s limited space in the city. I’m not sure how many more designated places there can be, at least in the parts of the city I spend time in. Over the last decade, there was a huge growth in the number of dog runs and off leash areas. Who do we take more space from? Kids? Adults playing sports? Designated wildlife areas? Cemeteries? Community gardens?
At some point, there may need to an acknowledgment of reality among dog owners - if they want lots of room for their pets to roam, a densely populated city might not be the place for them. People move to the burbs for schools and yards for their kids all the time.

You could make indoor spaces too not everything has to be outdoors

Yeah, I wouldn't care so much if they cleaned up after themselves. But I see pit bulls off-leash, and that's just such a stupid idea. Like, they're cute and adorable until they're not.

The dog owners in Bay Ridge are terrible. It’s like walking in a minefield every day because so many don’t clean up after their dogs on the sidewalks.

Why does this man represent your community? You think punching him in the face elevates the situation? Just obey the rules yourself, and ignore everything else. He probably just wants attention; don't give it to him.

I mean, it was a clear injection of levity and a point of being frustrated enough but knowing not doing something is the bigger thing, hence me hoping I only see it and not be the one doling out the beating. It finds these types of entitled pricks. Lessons, that is. I am ignoring him. That doesn’t mean it’s easy and he doesn’t deserve a whooping. Secondly, I was making a connection to what Mike Tyson famously said; “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.” Also, he represents my community because he’s a part of it like the rest of us. The same way we represent our neighborhood by the way we throw trash out and not on the sidewalk.

Ah -- I'm feeling grim this morning so totally misunderstood. People have been yelling at PEP for years. And honestly, some of them deserve it. But I totally understand the impulse to punch obnoxious people in parks.
The2econdSpitter t1_iv5d22p wrote
Right. I get you. It was clear that it got more and more out of hand over here and a local probably had enough. And the PEP in this case was not sticking her chest out or making a scene. Instead, it was this guy being a total nozzle and kept poking the bear.

Good for the PEP. They do put up with a lot of abuse. I talked to an Urban Park Ranger (same enforcement powers, I think). She worked in Central & Riverside Parks & said wealthy people would often try to get out of a ticket by telling her how much they donated to the park. Didn't matter to her.

It's gotten way out of hand. I feel like if someone is a dog owner I almost expect them to be entitled and crazy. It's a pleasant surprise when they're not lol.
And before I get downvoted to hell: I am a dog owner! Hopefully not one of the insufferable ones 😂

My neighborhood has been taken over by dog owners just like this, using a baseball field meant for the KIDS- a bunch of them weren’t picking up after their dog so they gym teacher got involved and put on a lock on the gate. Guess what they do? They start collecting signatures for the field to be turned into a ‘dog run’ when there are two dog runs right behind the baseball field LMAO. And you can bet the dogs of these types of folks are not off leash trained and the owners are more busy socializing with the other owners than paying attention to their dogs. Having their dog off leash means they don’t have to pay attention = lazy 🙄

Dog owners around the city have gotten out of hand over the last couple years. They take up all sorts of spaces they shouldn’t, disrespect off leash/on leash hours, and leave large amounts of poop and pee in children’s play areas. It’s way worse than it was pre-covid.
