Can anyone who has Fios confirm that the up/down speeds they get are as advertised? Sick of getting 5mbps upload speeds from Xfinity. Heard Philly Wisper is good, but also heard that their upload speeds aren't great.
Yeah, I vaguely remember reading that Fios tends to provision 10% higher than advertised just to be sure that they don’t get angry calls about the 1-2 mb discrepancy that happens when you run a speed test
I pay for 400/400 and reliably get 500/500 or better. Rock solid compared to the unstable shitshow that was comcast.
Getting 925 down/846 up right this second off my main node, so it's OK.

I'm on the one gig plan and can second that I get similar speeds.

Interesting… I’m grandfathered into free Gigabit (my total bill is only $71.99, I pay for Digital Voice and a router, and Gigabit is $0 on my bill) but my speed is only 300/330. My phone could be connected to my 3rd-party repeater though. It’s usually around 300 on the main floor and 50 upstairs (router and everything is in the basement of a two-story rowhome)
I pay 65 for gigabit with Fios. At least with internet, no taxes and router is free. Speed is great, solid.
For anyone who pays a router rental fee, buy one off eBay and return the rental, you’ll recoup the cost quickly.
If you’re just getting internet, you don’t even need the Verizon router. They’ll install the ONT and then you let them know you’re using a 3rd party router. Just make sure it can handle gigabit.
Might be worth seeing if you can run CAT5 up off the panel and into your ground floor — that’s what ours does, and along with a mesh network, we’re getting gigabit everywhere, even into the back yard.
What speed do you get with a wired connection? 300 is normal for Wi-Fi unless you're using 6 or 6E.

I pay for 200 mbps up and down, but get like 330.

200/200 has been replaced with 300/300, and has actually always been provisioned as 300/300. In fact, you should be able to "officially" switch to 300/300 without paying more than you currently are.
Oh, and there's no such thing as a modem in FiOS. The box where the fiber plugs in is the ONT, it does essentially the same thing as a modem, and it remains Verizon's property. It's not rented or sold to customers. What connects to it is a router, not a modem or modem/router.

My bad for accidentally saying "modem" instead of "router." I'm used to Comcast using cable modems. I signed up for Verizon FIOS 7 years ago and it still says 200/200 mbps on my statement. I also bought the Fios Quantum Gateway Router for 3 installments of $149.99, instead of renting the router at the time of purchase. Not sure if that is still an option anymore. Of course you don't own the ONT, but it's still installed on your property and Verizon is not charging you for it either.
I generally don't use Verizon's routers, there are much better options out there, and FiOS works with literally ANY router that doesn't have a built-in modem. Using a third-party router gets a little more complex if you have their TV service, but it's still possible.
I pay for 300/300 mbps up/down on FiOS and that's almost exactly what I get running a speed test.

I have FIOS gigabit and just got: 759 down / 914 up.
That's with active network activity, so that's not a "pure" speed test. But I've been extremely happy with Fios. In 5 years I haven't had a single problem. I haven't needed a technician to come out. I haven't had to call them and threaten to cancel my service so they don't raise my bill to some ridiculous amount. They haven't even changed my rate in 5 years! Switching from Comcast was one of the best things I've ever done. It's night-and-day. Even if your speeds stayed exactly the same you should switch just to not have to deal with all the other bullshit.

Fios is symmetrical, your up and down should be right with each other. I have 300/300 and it's pretty consistent to that.
My up/down is great and as advertised -- around 250 each with strong signal, sometimes a bit higher, sometimes a bit lower.
BUT I will say that the router they provide has frustrating periods of weak signal that effectively kills the bandwidth. There will be one day every two weeks (maybe? on average?) where for 20 minutes of every 30, just being at my desk 15 feet / two walls away will drop me down to 3-5 mbps, with my Windows wifi signal showing 2 or 3 bars out of 4. It's a mystery, and can be very frustrating, because with my partner and I each working from home on opposite sides of the apartment with the router in our bedroom in the middle, during those periods neither of us has good signal.
Yeah, the Verizon routers are OK at best. We switched to a three-node mesh network just before COVID hit, and it blasts everywhere in the house and into our back yard - well worth the initial setup expense.
Ive paid the same price since the 50/50 days and now have 300/300 but in some cases I get higher than 300 for DL. I pay $40/mo. FiOS is absolutely amazing and I am so glad we ditched Comcast all those years ago
Same here, switched 7 years ago. 50/50 was still a better option than Comcast's 5 mbps upload speed.
Can't stand Xfinity. Left them years ago for FiOS. FiOS has it's moments but nothing compared to that Xfinity bull

Thanks for the info. That speed is more than I thought your ISP provided. Are those speeds from a single family home or a multi unit apartment building? Regular residential $50/month or a more expensive plan? Is that typical or average for a single family home on your normal plan?
That's from a condo building on N 2nd St. Same $50 monthly price. We can't yet deliver that bandwidth to a SFH. We're working on it! Depending where you are located we can deliver around 180 Mbps down and 75 Mbps up. Other places, about half that. (And we are working to upgrade the other places.)

Just ran a test, came back as 917 Mbps Down / 933 Mbps Up and I pay for the 1Gbps symmetrical plan. Worst I've ever seen was something like 700 / 300 to a server on the other side of the country.
I pay $123 a month for the fastest Verizon speed I can get.... 3.0mbps DSL. :(

Check the wiring inside of your house. If it's the older RG59 and not RG6 it may be the limiting factor but your uploads should still be much higher than Xfinity.

Gigabit. Both are over 900Mb/s even during prime time. I'm sure the oversubscription ratio is quite low since A LOT of people I talk to only use Comcast.
Edit: also only $70 a month after auto payment and VZW discount, each being $10.
Pay for 1GB up and 1GB down. Plugged directly into the modem I get those speeds and about 2ms ping to the nearest server

I found a map from a non-verizon site and it looks like my area has "coverage", but Verizon says I only have access to their home 5G plans. I think it could be that my apartment building itself doesn't have the capability. I think my problem is most of my friends/co-workers probably have similarly un-upgraded apartments and so do not have access either, and so I thought it was like Baltimore where I lived before (essentially no Fios in the city).
I gotta look into this then. When I lived in NYC, I had FiOS, and had maybe at most 30 minutes of noticeable downtime ... over 5 years living there.
Meanwhile, with Comcast, I've had more downtime in a month.

I did a lot of testing on this because of a problem I was having with a TV. So I was testing wired vs wireless on my FIOS. I get screaming down speeds (800mb/s+) wired. Running ASUS Mesh wi-fi 6 I get 300mb down and just about the same up.
Good sized house, 3 TVs all wireless and tones of devices.
On the verizon fios 1 gig plan and its amazing so fiber is the way to go. Sometimes i get even more than 1 gib its like a 5%-10% up/down. Sometimes its 600/200 because i work from home but even so it never fails. I pay 74.99.
I pay for 300/300, usually get a tad more like 310ish
Yes, you actually get the speed you pay for and jitter is quite low. I will never ever again live where I'm forced to deal with Comcast's bullshit.
I pay for gig service and reliably get at least 250/250 on wifi anywhere in my house as tested on my phone. Using an old Google OnHub so I could probably get even more if I updated my router.
