At least you got it fixed right and honestly it would have been more expensive and more painful if something failed.

You're definitely paying for convenience.
Good, fast, cheap - pick two

I prefer a two day bath remodel.

It’s very expensive and doesn’t add much value

I just got a quote, then I had a contractor install the the shower, tub, vanity and sink I bought, and did two baths (duplex) for less than their one bath quote including my purchases.

How long did it take?
JustYourNeighbor t1_j8uv9b5 wrote
Each bath took about 5 days to complete. Plumbing wasn't moved and floors were already tiled. Hardest part really was busting up the cast iron tub to get it out.

That sounds like a plan. The commercials I see look too good to be true. There's got to be a catch. But I know that if we tackle it ourselves, it will never be finished.

You're basically paying more to have it done quickly. If you need it done in a single day, and don't mind paying what they charge, then you'll be fine. If you can deal with having someone work on it for a few days, or a week, then contract a regular handyman / contractor.

If you only have one bathroom and no where else to go. That’s my worry

That's a fair point.

Do you have a basement drain? Get creative. (I know someone who did this lmao.)

You're actually paying more for them to do it wrong not fast.

I had a walk-in shower replacement with Re-bath. It was a great experience. I had West Shore Homes come out for an estimate after the home show. He started out at $12k, then 10k, then 8500. He was very annoyed that i wanted to get other quotes. Re-bath came in at the same price and the salesman was just more trustworthy (my opinion). Prices before covid. Loved everything about the experience and i couldn't believe how good the caulking was. Don't forget to tip your installers and get them some pizza. Mine were there 12 hours.

We used re-bath for our old Pittsburgh bathroom (pink/green tile, old plumbing) in April 2021. We got a quote from bath fitters but for a little more money re-bath took out my porcelain pink tub and tile along with completely redoing the plumbing. Was it expensive, yes, but it was done in one day. The contractors were friendly and professional. Kept us in the know during the whole day. We were more comfortable having everything completed than just putting a tub over our old one.

I work at a architectural firm that specializes in high end kitchen and baths. That seems like cutting a lot of corners or just a cover up the bad kind of jobs. Probably looks good for 5 years at most then you'll be ripping the over priced hack job out.

Years ago, we use Patete Kitchen and Bath. We got one of those bath fitter things. It was $3k or so, if I remember correctly. We were very pleased with them.

Unfortunately it seems like the average price now is near 15k

Well this was about 12-15 years ago. Lol.

We did one with west shore home last year. It was a shower to shower replacement. They didn’t touch the rest of the bath. If they do, and they can, they subcontract that out.
In all, it was $15k. It looks fine, but it’s really overpriced. If I had more bandwidth and was smarter, I would have tried to do it myself, but DIY is what got us into this mess. The previous owner did a shitty layover DIY job updating the bathroom and after 6 months of use, it began leaking into our garage.
I had four contractors out and each one had a guess but because of the mystery meat under the tile floor (that was failing), none of them even gave me a quote, let alone a fuck off quote. West Shore did. It was literally the only quote I could get… in the end, we got lucky because the price we were told is the price we got and west shore had to do some serious plumbing rework because of the mcguyver shit the previous owner had done. They had four people on site including their master plumber scratching their heads at what the fuck they were looking at. If we had used a contractor, our final price would have been massively different than what we were told. I would say, aside from the fact that the work is done within 8 hours, the truth on price is where the benefit is. Still, paying $15k for a bathroom that was already recently renovated is fucking crazy. We did go with one of the slightly more expensive looks, but we didn’t go with the expensive fixtures.
