What's the deal with that place? I have tried to go multiple times around 9 or 10pm but when I get there the sign says closed and the door is locked but the place is packed and clearly still serving drinks and food. It's also listed as being open until usually at least 12:30am.

They were one of the original plaintiffs against the City ordinance requiring paid sick time, so I've always just assumed it's a total shitshow to work there. I also choose not to patronize businesses owned by known assholes, so I haven't been there since.

So too were Church Brew Works. Just putting it out there if someone for some god forsaken reason still wants to go there.

Who else was a plaintiff?

Church Brew Works, Dirt Doctors (cleaning service in Brighton Heights), and one other I can't remember at the moment.

Edit: Found it. There were two more plantiffs: A Rita's Italian Ice franchise and Storms Restaurant.

Wtf I didn’t know the owners were dicks. It was always friendly when I went there.

Didn't know that! Makes sense. Always seemed like a cluster fuck when I was in there.

I never forgot about that and I still won’t go there.

Same. It was an ok spot for a burger but I haven't gone back since.

Any business that takes a major stand against something like sick time is not one I'm ever going to spend money at again.

There are 2 entrances to this place, did you try going in the side door? I don't know why they would lock either doors, but just a thought.

It's family owned and they close early a lot of times. It sounds like either they are having a reserved party or you are going to the wrong door.

it's somewhat common for the doors at the modern to become "exit only" after a certain point in the evening when they want to wind down

I've never had any issues getting in there, earlier or later. They will get pretty packed, maybe it's an occupancy limit thing?

Who knows but they have horrific service anyways. Sometimes when it's cold my family friends go there instead of tailgating for a Steelers game and my boyfriend and I just go elsewhere.

Does anywhere in Pittsburgh have good service on a game day?

Yes. Burgatory and Mike’s Beer Bar come to mind. Modern Cafe doesn’t staff properly to provide anything close to acceptable service.

Thank you, that’s good to know. I usually just avoid the entire area until it’s time to enter the stadium. It’s hard being a fan of sports and a hater of crowds at the same time!

Fair enough! Mike’s gets super crowded. Burgatory accepts reservations even on game days which is great

Was around 9:30 last night when I tried to go there. Closed sign up out front with a decently packed bar. Decided to just go to 412 across the street instead of trying the side entrance.
