I am working with Rep. Potter who, along with Sen. Meghan Kallman, introduced a bill last week to decriminalize psilocybin for personal use and therapeutic use upon FDA approval. It has already been scheduled to for a hearing next week!

We are looking to mobilize folks (particularly Veterans) who are willing to testify at the State House hearing next Thursday 3/9 or via written testimony - specifically on how psilocybin has benefited them.

If you or anyone you know would be willing to be involved please reach out.

Here is some media coverage for more info: https://www.wpri.com/news/politics/ri-lawmakers-seek-to-legalize-magic-mushrooms/

Thanks in advance!

Written testimonies can be emailed to HouseJudiciary@rilegislature.gov referencing bill #5923 and it will added to the committee’s documents.

You should reach out to the public safety community as well. You’d be surprised how many people have life changing experiences with psilocybin after suffering a long time with the side-effects of the years of daily trauma exposure.

Thanks for the suggestion! We have some people looking for folks in the public safety community as well. If you know anyone, feel free pass info along or have them connect with me. Thank you!

Not a veteran, but have used psilocybin for migraines and it’s worked wonders for that on top of my mental health. Willing participant here.

Amazing, thank you! We only have limited time for in-person testimonies so we are using those for medical professionals, first responders and veterans as we feel would be most impactful. However, we would appreciate any written/emailed testimonies possible!

This is great. I was at a webinar (put together by BSAS) two days ago that presented some of the research behind this type of therapy. This specific webinar was about how it helped people with Alcohol use disorder. It looks so promising, I hope it passes (doubt it). It might be useful to get some brown researchers involved and emphasize the controlled nature of the Therapy because the usual ignorant suspects with a 50 year old medical degree that never updated themselves will be against it (yup, I’m bitter about this man). Best of luck!

Legislation has already passed in Oregon and Colorado, as well as four cities in Michigan - quickly moving along other states. So it is promising!

glad to hear this legislation is being introduced! im noticing that news coverage is sometimes saying mushrooms would be "legalized", sometimes "decriminalized", and sometimes both in the same article (or across the headline and article body). do you mind clarifying whether the bill would allow for full legalization or just decriminalization? thanks!

At this point it is only decriminalization for personal use / at-home growth. Not full legalization including retail sales and production. However, there is a clause stating the therapeutic/medical use would be allowed upon FDA approvals.
