Can only imagine how bad my BP would be if I didn’t use weed.

Same, mines always been on the high side and the lifelong cannabis use really hasn't curbed that at all

Yo ICU nurse here, this is more common than folks realize. It's part of why you should see a doctor at least every couple years, so we can at least catalogue some normals for you for when the check engine light inevitably turns on

If a patient tells you what their normal is, that's their normal

I've got poor people insurance and even though I have a primary, he's never available. I don't think the providers I'm seeing give a hoot about my history even though it's there. The Healthcare in my state is absolutely atrocious.

I think nurses are amazing. I have deep respect for ICU nurses especially. When my younger sister was passing, the ICU nurses went above and beyond. I can imagine there must be lots of hard work and a lot of emotions in that line of work.

Women have lower blood pressure than men across the board though I would have been impressed if you were a guy but its probably just the protective effect of estrogen you have to thank

95/50ish is my resting BP and I'm a 29 year old man. I used to donate blood and plasma quite a lot in my early twenties and twice my BP was too low to donate, so I basically walked around a bit and got it back past 90/50.

Sh4ckleford_Rusty t1_j9gji3t wrote

Yeah I used to have that problem every time I donated, thankfully they removed that criteria here in Canada. No more jumping jacks in the screening room for this guy.

I have questions about the setup. I question the wisdom of excluding patients with cardiovascular disease. The same Biobank data has been previously used to show cannabis use correlates with increased cardiovascular disease, which usually has a BP component to it. Excluding this population would seems counter productive.

Yeah, this is a pointless finding because 1) it's not a patient-centered outcome, and 2) it's not done in a medically interesting population

THC is known to increase the aromatization of Testosterone into Estrogen in men. I wonder if the reduction in unbound testosterone is a contributing factor to lower blood pressure in men.

I started smoking regularly and powerlifting at the same time, toncalm down my CNS.

My testosterone went up a lot, and my BP went down a lot.

The general physical health changes did a lot, but I think it might show that weed can't drop free Test enough for it to matter.

It's been shown to be linked, but not causal yet. Formal studies on THC and gynecomastia have not been performed in humans.

Stating things as facts that haven't been proven so, is also not helpful for establishing scientific basis.

dboygrow t1_j9g5swi wrote

Do you have a source for that? I've been smoking a long time as well as using steroids and bodybuilding and I've never heard that claim. Not saying you're wrong I just would like some evidence before I believe it.

Some problems I see right away. First, these studies were done during prohibition and I think we all know you can find studies to support a certain narrative if you manipulate some of the parameters and sample size. The first pubmed link, I can't even see the study itself unless I'm missing something which is possible. The second link had a sample size of only 14 and it doesn't detail when they got gyno, and as far as I can see all you can see is the abstract notes, but I'm no expert at reading studies either. How did they know these volunteers for the study didn't use anabolics or eliminate other outside factors like terrible lifestyle and diet?

I just think correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation. And tbh, I don't think it directly correlates either. I've known a lot of heavy smokers including myself and the vast majority of them don't have gyno, so it leads me to believe that this is due to something else, maybe low physical activity and terrible diet, lots of things that affect androgens and hormones.

I think we would need more current research with a far larger sample size to actually treat this as a fact. We all know there was plenty of anti cannabis propoganda back in the day and people had a certain mindset against cannabis, could've affected the findings and parameters of any studies.

You should really update your knowledge base on this. https://earthmed.com/blog/does-weed-lower-testosterone https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5660879/#:~:text=Background,testosterone%20concentrations%20among%20marijuana%20users. Rodent and primate studies are a great place to start research bust should not be used as a, this is what will happen in humans.

Higher aromitization of estradiol does not necessarily equate to a reduction in total serum testosterone. The level of unbound "free testosterone" would be reduced when you introduce an agent (thc) that causes aromatization into estradiol. Total testosterone levels are not the same as bio-available levels.

I actually quit smoking because my blood pressure was so high. Every time I’d smoke my heart would start racing. So I stopped. BP has come down slightly.

14

whichonespink04 t1_j9hjdqd wrote

My understanding is thay weed typically reduces blood pressure and increases heart rate, likely one being the reflexive response to the other (I believe that BP drops, so HR increases in response to maintain the BP.

18long t1_j9idv68 wrote

Any type of smoking (tobacco or cannabis) can potentially make you develop higher BP. Smoking stresses the heart.

Try edibles instead.

I smoked cannabis off and on for 40 years, more on than off to be sure and I noticed that into my 50’s when I smoked my bp dropped markedly, to the point I had to lie down until the initial rush dropped off. Don’t smoke anymore.
