That's embarassing.
Best regular season record in the history of baseball.
Lost to a team that won less than 90 games AND they beat the same team 12 out of 17 times during the season.

Several teams have won that many or more games in the regular season. The Mariners and Dodgers share something in common too: an early exit from the playoffs.

lol. Called it. I've called it for years. The Dodgers can't win unless they're assisted with a shorted season like that faux 2020 season. They just don't have the stamina. They get almost there but burn out. And as per usual it's some bonehead call from Roberts. Oh look they have things within reach. Time for Roberts to change out the pitcher for who is this? Why?

I was at the game. Been to hundreds of sports events in a dozen countries including World Cups, NCAAF Championships and this was the single most electrifying and memorable of them all. Absolute pandemonium. After the game, people were getting out of their OWN CARS to dance in the streets with strangers! 24 hours later, I still haven't calmed down.

Not sure how I feel about this playoff format, 1 then 7 seems better than 3 then 5. 1 game take all is fun while 3 and 5 are still pretty random so itās kind of unnecessarily drawn out. No slight to the Padres, just an observation from an increasingly casual fan.
RightclickBob t1_isn05kf wrote
The division series has always been 5 games

Either option is similar schedule length though. MLB refusal to shorten regular season or games is going to cost them more than it is saving them.

Glad the Dodgers LOST but I hope the Phillies destroy the Padres. I went to a Padres game as a Giants fan recently and the Padres fans I encountered were awful. One guy even called my wife a cunt and told her she had ādog shitā on her sweatshirt. No, we were not loud and obnoxious fans. We were quiet, barely even cheering when the Giants scored. Kept to ourselves the whole time. I had always heard good things about Padres fans too.
Yeah, I hope the Padres get 0-4ād.
Edited for a typo: I know the Dodgers lost. š¤£

I've been a Padres fan since I was 6. I've been to quite number of games and while I've seen some shitty fan behavior on occasion, I've never seen what you're describing to a "quiet barely cheering" opposing fan. Your story reads like, "I've never done anything wrong in my life" and I don't believe you've told the whole story.
twombles21 t1_ismc7oq wrote
āIāve never seen it so it must not exist!ā
Well, youāve never met me and my wife. We are quiet people who are just there to enjoy the game. If my wife had 5 bucks for everytime someone told her she is too quiet and āyou need to talk moreā, Iād be a trophy husband.
Korvun t1_ismkja6 wrote
I didn't say it doesn't exist, and I didn't say this event didn't happen. I just don't believe your, "I was just standing there" story. We're to believe that this belligerent fan just verbally assaulted your wife because you "quietly cheered" when your team scored? Come on now.
twombles21 t1_ismlz8w wrote
No, I didnāt specify anything about context. We were walking back to our seats from getting one of those ice cream cookie sandwiches near the Rocket League booth and this guy and his friend were walking in the opposite direction past us. The guy closest to us saw my wifeās sweatshirt and thatās when he said it.
Korvun t1_isod4sx wrote
That's even less plausible. This entire exchange happened in passing because he saw her sweatshirt? Not even "quietly cheering" now? Just happened by with an ice cream cookie and he's like, "Hey, cunt! You've got shit on your sweater!"?
twombles21 t1_isoq2tk wrote

Youād have to find that guy and ask him why he decided to be an asshole for no reason, but that is what happened.
By your standards, the Knockout Game has to be made up because it doesnāt make sense that someone would try and knock someone else out cold without a reason, right?!
Believe whatever you want. It happened.
Korvun t1_isp4tbp wrote
You keep trying to apply some weird logic to other scenarios when in reality it's just your story that isn't believable. Is it possible? Sure, but you're saying every Padres fan is a piece of shit and I hope their team loses because of one very likely made-up incident.
twombles21 t1_isp906c wrote
Nowhere did I say EVERY Padres fan is a piece of shit. Your own bias convinced you that I did and you proceeded under that delusion without actually thoroughly reading what I said.
If you looked at one of my other comments to another redditor, you will see that I said, and I quote:
āYea, I know. It was just extremely frustrating for us. My wife has a history of getting verbally abused by people for doing literally nothing to warrant it. People see that she is short, petite and quiet and they take advantage of it.

Why would I read a different conversation to get more context for THIS conversation? Especially when the additional context you've given ALSO sounds like bullshit? She does LITERALLY NOTHING, but is constantly randomly verbally accosted? Give me a break, man.
If you leave your house and run into an asshole, you've run into an asshole. If you leave your house and everyone you run into is an asshole, YOU'RE the asshole.
And you may not have outright said all fans, but you sure want to punish all Padres fans because "the ones you encountered" that day were assholes. Now, if a person wanted to levy a punishment to an entire group of people for the bad behavior of a few, what would that make the guy wanting to punish everyone?
twombles21 t1_isq4f99 wrote
You stated that I said all Padres fans are a piece of shit . I was providing proof that your statement was untrue and pointing you to evidence of that.
Stop saying Iāve said things that I havenāt. You are using hyperbole to try and make it seem like Iām purposefully making unrealistic and exaggerated claims.
I did not say my wife is constantly verbally abused. Merely that she has been verbally abused on more occasions than the average person because sheās small and quiet.
I only said I hope the Padres lose and mostly because I was angry about how we were treated by more than one isolated Padres fan. Now, notice I said more than one. Not many, not most, not all. What I said will have zero effect on how the Padres actually perform. Iām not doing anything to punish anyone.
Perhaps instead of getting all defensive, you should have gone with something like āDonāt lump all Padres fans together. We arenāt all bad!ā unless you were just looking for a reason to argue.
Korvun t1_isqieqq wrote

I used your own ridiculous story to make your story sound unrealistic, no hyperbole needed.
>I did not say my wife is constantly verbally abused. Merely that she has been verbally abused on more occasions than the average person because sheās small and quiet.
You're splitting hairs. You said she has a history of it, now you're saying it's more common than the average person. You can argue with my use of constant if you like, but the point is the same. You're full of it.
>Perhaps instead of getting all defensive, you should have gone with something like āDonāt lump all Padres fans together. We arenāt all bad!ā unless you were just looking for a reason to argue.
Your idea for not being defensive is to say something defensive? I'd rather just keep calling your BS stories what they are, BS.

Your use of constant to change the narrative to better suit your agenda says otherwise.

You act like those two statements are opposing ideas and canāt possibly both be true simultaneously.
As I said before, you can believe what you want. My story is true whether you believe it or not. Unless you work at Petco Park as security and have access to security camera footage with audio, nothing you can say will change that.
Korvun t1_isr3nk3 wrote

Actually, I used those two statements to make the point I did. That you're implying consistency.
>As I said before, you can believe what you want. My story is true whether you believe it or not.
You see, now I said at the beginning that your story is plausible, but that you've chosen to omit key elements in the story, like your part in it. Given that you've instead chosen to say, "nuh uh, we're as innocent as the driven snow" instead, I'll just stick to my original conclusion. Have a blessed day.
twombles21 t1_isr9spa wrote
Your error is assuming that there were key elements that were omitted without even having the ability to prove that is the case, not to mention having zero knowledge about the person who said it. Yeah, Iām the one who is full of it. š
āHave a blessed dayā. Oh, that explains so much about you. Thanks for that.
Korvun t1_isrhqpa wrote
Oh, no, I didn't make an error. Your many bullshit stories have proven that much to be true.
It says something about me? I wonder what that could be. It would be funny to hear what assumptions you've made about me given that statement you just made about how it's an error to do so.
Edit: So brave
twombles21 t1_isrnzeq wrote
You can keep saying my āstory is bullshitā but itās not going to make that statement true.
