Hello! I'm part of a historical re-creation group, and we are in need of a local-ish (within 45 minutes of Springfield) event site for May 13. We have specific requirements that are proving difficult to fulfill.

Needs: Space for ~125-150 people. Some sort of building in case of bad weather, and to be used as a dining hall, class space, etc. A kitchen or area that can be used to serve food. A small field for marshal activities. The site must have liability insurance.

Wants: A field for equestrian activities. If we do have equestrian activities, there must be space for camping, and the event would run May 12-14 instead. Space for an archery range. Bathrooms would be great, but we can rent portapotties.

We've looked at a lot of the easy-to-find places here already, and they didn't work for one reason or another, so I think at this point we're mostly needing suggestions for places we might not have stumbled across, but any suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks!

Have you looked into the historical Fox Theatre downtown? I know they have a space but am not sure how big it is

Lucky J Arena in Carthage? I know there are some other place out that way that might be a good fit for what you’re needing.

Hullston Mill out towards Greenfield hosts horse events. Not sure about a reception hall area though.

It’s an hour away - I got down voted for 15 minutes

I stand by my recommendation- they have a building that can be used for weather. A blacksmith, a pottery shop, and a partially built castle

The place is awesome

It looks like it would be very cool to visit! But if I'm reading this correctly, it's been closed since 2012? As much as I would LOVE to hold an event here, it's too primitive for what we need, as I don't see any structures that can hold 150 people and all their stuff - would need electricity and plumbing. Thank you for the recommendation though! I wonder if anyone will ever pick up the project again.

I have actually filmed there and the owners were very accommodating at the time - I know one of them has a daughter who lived near Branson

They have a visitors center we used for meals and staging - I seem to remember it being a decent size but can’t say for certain as it was about 12 years ago

It’s worth keeping on a back up list - lots of room for tents, if they have maintained the bathrooms no need for portapotties, and event tents could be attached to the visitors center

When we filmed there we used the space for free in the off season and I fell in love

Currently trying to convince my husband it would be worth buying and trying to find investors 😂
