“Preparing to convert…” they are not currently actively doing any conversion.

BMW has been making electric cars for a while, not sure what you're talking about. Wait, were we referring to Chrysler?

I hope they make EVs with manual transmission.

Should we also save the mules and give them a dedicated lane on the highway?

Guy named RaceHard doesn't want a manual transmission? Would you like your race car to have steering assist too?

RaceHard t1_j14kle4 wrote

The racehard is cause I had a sticker from 2004 that said race hard on it. I see cars as machines to take us from point A to point B. Hell if they could do it with zero input from us even better. That will eventually be the world we live in.

Some people still want to have horses and travel roads with them.

I run a coal stove at home like it's 1800s still lol. I prefer the heat than electric heaters that I use when I'm too lazy to get more coal.

Some people still buy record players.

I'm willing to bet much of the infrastructure you use is many decades old.

Worked at places that claimed to have state of the art stuff. You pop a panel out and you'd be looking at 40 year old tech.

I've worked in a couple of industries that tried automating things and it fell on its face. I'm not saying we are not going to improve and automate stuff, but it is very difficult to get to the point of operating better than humans.

Some tasks are much better handled by robotics, but driving in all conditions that humans have to is a pretty cool challenge.

I understand that some people may prefer certain traditional technologies or practices, such as using a coal stove or a record player. However, there are many benefits to living with modern technology that can improve our quality of life and make everyday tasks easier and more efficient.

For example, modern heating systems, such as electric heaters, can provide more consistent and efficient heat compared to coal stoves. Modern infrastructure, while it may include some older components, has also been designed and built with safety and efficiency in mind. In addition, advances in automation and robotics have made it possible to perform many tasks more accurately and efficiently than humans, freeing up time and resources for other activities.

While it is true that some tasks may be better suited for human handling, such as driving in certain conditions, it is also important to consider the potential benefits of technology and how it can help us to achieve our goals more effectively. Ultimately, the decision to use modern technology or traditional practices is a personal one, and it is important to find a balance that works best for each individual.

Ford had a 6-speed manual EV Mustang at Sema. It was not a real manual though as it does not have a gearbox. It mocked gears that you could shift if I understood it correctly. I would guess they do it similar to how automatics with cvt and paddle shifters would to it.

The thing is with all of these car companies that are switching over to fully electric is that it's all for profit they know that they can charge a lot more for electric cars now and force the issue on consumers and we'll all be stuck with huge car loans. All electric is not the way there has to be choices for consumers and either way we're screwing the Earth. Ordinary people won't be able to afford to buy cars in the future.

Supply/demand, EVs will come down in price as more people adopt them and charging points are constructed, some are already reasonably priced. What choice do consumers have now besides petrol/diesel?

What choice do consumers have when EV's have an EV tax that is in the 5 figure range?

EV's have gained market share but the price for them has gone up not down. And every single point of data points to the price of EV batteries increasing not decreasing as the materials they need cost more to procure.

When consumers are polled why they don't buy an EV the number 1 issue is price. And price being a problem is forecasted to get worse not better.

Most people don't have the money to buy a $46,000+ EV. Most people can only afford a $25,000-$30,000 car. Low interest rates helped them afford a more expensive vehicle but those days are gone.

Somehow people always ignore that ICE vehicles are also crazy expensive. The dealer sold my 2015 Legacy for $20K and a well equipped Camry Hybrid is $40K out the door, cars are all just flat out expensive

There is already a choice, it’s called public transport. The planet does not support everyone having a car no matter how many batteries they contain.

You are an idiot if you think public transportation fits 90% of the American society. The way our cities and the way our infrastructure is lacking there's absolutely no way our economy can function if majority of the people take public transportation. It's called choices. And by the way I own two Tesla vehicles so I know the advantages of an electric car brings but majority of people will not be able to afford electric cars in the future

Because only America exists.

Also you speak of choices, it seems improving the situation isn't a valid choice. You know, like how other countries moved from the situation you know, to one where public transportation is the better alternative.

Just keep repeating it is impossible and you will prove yourself correct by not changing it. Its flawless.

We’re in agreement. My point is that making cars full electric is great, but this is not going to save the planet.
