If you're not engrossed with the central premise by episode 3 it's probably just not for you. Nothing dramatically changes through the season IMO, it's just that the innies get more and more confrontational and begin to make their own plans.

What you’re saying is mainly correct, but I do think the show gets more compelling in later episodes. So much of the first few episodes were focused on Petey, which wasn’t all that compelling to me (even tho it was necessary to start outtie Mark on his journey.)

The core of the show IMO is the relationships built between the innies and their increasing curiosity about what’s out there. That really takes a couple of episodes to pick up. I think once Innie Mark starts to get on board with Helly the show’s plot really takes off.

Yeah the Petey stuff was probably the weakest subplot.

I'd also say the scene where Helly's outtie sends her the video message was the "I'm fucking IN" moment for me. Up to that point I was thinking sure, cool show, I'll watch it. But at that scene I decided to binge it all in one sitting.

Severance is absolutely superb imo tbh so I would say that it is, however I was intrigued and involved fully by the end of episode 1 so don’t really understand ‘does the show pick up’ as I didn’t find it slow or in engaging early on anyway.

I was fully invested from basically the first scene, but some people have said they preferred the second half of the season as the plot does pick up pace. The finale was one of the best things I've seen in years!

In addition to what others have said, I really loved the vibes they created with the music and cinematography. Also the acting and dialog are sharp. It's a quirky mystery with dry humor.

If you dont like stuff like Black Mirror then you wont like it. You should be balls deep by ep 3.

I'm not a Black Mirror fan, and I love Severance. So it is possible to like Severance and not Black Mirror, but you need to enjoy slow burn mystery, quirky dystopias, or something like that to get into it.

You dont like ANY black mirror? Have you watched the san junipero episode at least? (Not as darkly themed as the others)

Petrichor02 t1_iy5ecfh wrote

I've seen a random handful of episodes. Didn't really like Nosedive or Hang the DJ. I thought Bandersnatch and San Junipero were mostly good, but neither hooked me on the show/made me want to watch more. And I really liked Black Museum. So overall I don't consider myself a Black Mirror fan since it's been really hit or miss for me.

I enjoyed it. Enough intrigue and weirdness, with an interesting premise and asks interesting moral questions. I think the last episode's one of the best things I've seen this year. I'd also say, especially after that episode, that Jessica Lee Gagne is a cinematographer to keep an eye on

+1 for the boss title sequence too

Definitely. One of the best of the year. I love weird stuff though, so it's not for everyone.

I don't recommend powering through the boredom. It was already drawing me in by episode 3.

Not everyone is excited by television like that,
have you tried watching NCIS?
It's very exciting, I'll bet you'll like it.

I've watched the whole thing, didn't think it was anything special, so if you're still bored by episode 3, I think you should just stop.

Favorite show I have seen in a long time. 1st episode was a bit slow for my liking but basically everything after that for me was so good. The wait for S2 will kill me

i thought it was fine, but not as great as some people made it seem. no point in slogging through something you're not enjoying

def stop now, it only gets better and you won't like that, if you didn't like the phenomenal 1st 3. prob recommend switching to some mindless non-thought provoking reality shows like baking and dating and such.

i liked the premise of severance, but i also found it boring. tbh i feel like the show copies a lot from Counterpart, but Counterpart is just a more entertaining show

I felt the same way as you. I powered through it because it had been so heavily recommended by people I trusted. It stays the same through episode 8, then episode 9 is exciting. I did not think it was worth the journey and don't plan on watching more. If episodes 1-8 were condensed into 2 episodes and episode 9 was the third episode, it would have been fantastic.
