Well I will address the public transportation question: there are buses in the Burlington area. Not in Stowe.

Yeah public transportation borderline doesn’t exist in VT. To live here you MUST own a reliable car.

As for what to do, it depends on what you are into. There is plenty to do in the winter, if you are into winter things. Also this storm we just got wasn’t shit. We got like 4-6”. Barely enough to cover the dirt.

If you are into skiing/snowshoeing, better to come in February when we have some real snow. If you just want to be outdoorsy and sightsee and explore towns, summer and fall is better. If you want peak foliage, first week of October is generally the best time to come for that.

If you want to make visiting Vermont worthwhile at all, you will need your own transportation. Public transportation outside of Burlington is inconvenient or nonexistent. There is no Uber or Lyft. To make your visit at all worth your time or money, you need your own wheels.

That said, visiting in Vermont in the winter is incredibly popular and well worth it. It’s best to hit up several touristy towns, spending 1-2 days in each. All the better if you ski, but if not there’s still a lot to do.

Actually there's a free shuttle that runs all day and goes from downtown Stowe all the way up to the mountain in the winter.

If you're into skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, or winter hiking, then January is a great time to visit! But if you're not into outdoor activities, then be prepared for lots of cold and not a lot in the way of festivals or other events.

It's not a constant snow storm here if that's what you're worried about but yes, there will be snow and it will be cold. There are lots of outdoor activities, you will need the proper clothes for them. Otherwise, there's shopping, breweries, dining, etc.

If you want rain and 50 and misery come on up! But really don’t. We are having the worst winter. There isn’t much to do since everything that makes Vermont nice is outdoors and it just keeps raining. Current 10 day has rain 5 of those 6 days. If we get lucky it will be colder than expected and that will all be snow which will suck for travel but be good for outdoor activities

What happened to good old fashioned research? You could have answered your own questions relatively quickly. If you aren't even aware of our public transportation situation you would probably benefit from doing your own research before coming here.

Look at VT on google maps with the satellite view; that will answer your question on public transportation (there is none outside of some parts of chittenden co)
