But I don’t give a shit… if you get state money, you should be turning out kids who are educated in a way that fits the states norms and values. And you should be accepting all kids who want to attend. I don’t think that the semi-private schools that are the main school for their town are at any kind of risk. I haven’t read the law, but compliance with state education standards seems like a pretty base level expectation. As a kid who had school choice, chose SJA, but had an 504 plan, SJA refused to accept me unless I had a true IEP which came with more money for them. Through some testing and other crap I was given an IEP, and attended SJA for a total of 6 weeks before they decided that I wasn’t a fit, and I got sent to a different school. They take state money, fuck them treating kids who learn differently like they are fucking diseased. What those schools fail to do is support kids who have LDs, and that’s a disservice to the kids, some of whom will grow out of those issues, and support in those years is imperative in their future success. Luckily for me after 18 months of bouncing I landed in a public high-school that set me up for college, and I’m now an adult with a career. But a lot of kids who get cast aside by these schools don’t get that support, or don’t do well through the uncertainty.

Good choice. But it’s a lot of what people do in St J. We lived there for 5 years, not much going on, but a lot of drug use.

Vermonts numbers are heavily skewed by a high proportion of prison residents who are not Vermont residents. A large portion violent crime in the state is committed by people from surrounding states trafficking drugs. For instance Burlington had 5 murders last year, all 5 were committed by POC 3 against POC, and of the 5 committing the crime only 2 were a Vermont resident2. The others were from cities. A 4th one was a resident but only because they were on probation for a drug crime they committed in VT but came from Brooklyn.

What the fuck does the per child cost have to do with the price of tea in China? A CCP can have like 8 kids per adult + 4 school age when on breaks that’s 60k-100k a year gross. It’s not great but for a home provider who can then write off their mortgage, furniture, car, etc as a business expense it’s not small either. If we reduce regulations so that average people could do that without needing special licensing there would be more capacity.

The average childcare worker is making $2.50 under minimum wage? Find that hard to believe. The issue is regulation and parents. 30 years ago daycare was some lady in a trailer watching 10-15 kids. Her job was to feed them and make sure they didn’t die. When I was in daycare we would be outside most of the day unsupervised making forts and climbing trees, going sledding and having snowball fights (and occasionally fist fights).
They didn’t limit the number of kids someone could watch, and they didn’t expect that person to have a phd. I learned nothing from daycare other than being socialized to being around other kids. Kids are being coddled and society has become full of parents who if their kid gets a scratch are ready to sue over it. I still have scars from fun gone awry at daycare, but that was part of growing up.

No I offered a permanent solution which is not reliant on others. It’s Vermont. If you can’t shovel your driveway you shouldn’t live here. End of story. And if your driveway is too long to shovel then you should own a tractor or big snow blower. Imagine if the thing wasn’t snow… they post on here our house cleaner left town without telling us and now our trash is piling up and the sink is filled and flowing over. We would tell them to do the dishes and take out the trash. This is no different. My lawn guy left town and now my lawn is too high we would say go mow the fucking thing. No different. A person should be able to on their own (unless elderly or disabled) maintain the inside of their house and the outside. Specialty things like carpentry or plumbing hire someone, but if it’s a task that a 9 year old neighbor kid does for $10 then it’s a task that any homeowner should be able to do without help.

Yup. Young couple, 2 shovels, and an hours work they will be done. Or just wait 2 days and it will have melted to the point it doesn’t need plowing.

Policy makers are not average republicans stop being stupid. Pretending that the base of the Republican Party is not poor white non-college educated working class people is moronic. Working manual labor in Vermont means you are white (95% of the population is so fuck off this is a fact) manual labor also pays less than white collar jobs, this is a fact, while some make good money in the trades, on the average a person working construction, or as a mechanic is not making what a person who is a banker, or doctor is making, they tend to be lower middle class.

I mean if 2/3 republicans are the nuts ones, that leaves 1/3 of them as not. That’s not a large portion or large number. Spend 10 minutes on a pro 2a Vermont Facebook page, or go to a Republican rally. They are fucking insane (as a pro 2a liberal who thought showing support at the state house was a good idea, I can tell you that they are INSANE!!!)

It’s not ignorant. Or offensive. Poor white people skew more Republican than others, and they tend to work lower paying or manual labor jobs. EVERY Republican I know works a manual labor job, they take pride in “working hard” and say that people in office jobs are lazy. They do things like construction, carpentry, landworks, granite shops, mechanics, truckers. It’s not ignorant to be honest and say that those jobs skew more low income, low education, and in Vermont white and that those people make up the base of our Republican Party. Basically people in the “trades”

Profession means proximity. If you work manual labor with blue collar coworkers and interact with blue collar folks you are closer to the poor white republicans. This poster is right that much of the VT Republican Party is as shit nuts as the rest of the national party. Republicans make up 30% of our state. 60+% of them are just as idiotic and insane as the national party.

He claims to hunt. But let’s all be honest, he doesn’t. I’ve met him in person, right after this whole thing went down, I asked him what his feelings were on using dogs to find a wounded animal if that meant the dogs crossed onto his land, he said he would not let someone retrieve a legally shot animal that entered his land. He is NOT a sportsman.

To pretend that this rich DC prick has “livestock” is just dumb. He has a farm so he can be an internet attention whore. He isn’t a farmer, he doesn’t need the animals, he isn’t homesteading. He has some ducks that he posts videos of online, and has convinced people that he is a real farmer. He moved from suburbia to buy farmland in VT and then immediately started to impose his DC agenda on the state. I’m progressive as they come when it comes to human rights, but for fuck sake, why come to a state and try to limit the freedom of the locals?
Also worth noting a typical bear dog is probably better trained than your typical 6 year old child. So sure these hounds ran onto his UNPOSTED land in pursuit of a bear, but they were no risk to any of his animals unless he was illegally keeping bears enclosed.

Why the fuck do you need to post 400 acres of woods if your 85 and can’t walk through the woods? That’s the point. Rights are in the constitution. It’s intentionally difficult to post land because it’s not in the interest of the community

This is idiotic. Hounds men are the single best tool wildlife managers have to reduce human bear conflict. Unless you want Toto to be eaten by the local black bear when he breaks into the house, you should respect what houndsmen do to instill a healthy fear of humans and dogs in the bear population. Sure it’s probably scary for the bear, but that’s the point.

Morgan Gold is a giant pile of human excrement. Moves here from the city, buys a bunch of land (100+ acres) while working corporate gig. Pretends to be just this little farmer, but in reality he is a rich guy from out of state who has worked high level corporate communications jobs for big companies. He came here, and is trying to change the state. He intentionally creates conflict where none is needed in order to further his agenda against hunters. His land was not legally posted, and yet he treated a hunter who was ASKING FOR PERMISSION (being a responsible hunter) like the guy was somehow the devil for carrying on traditions as old as the state.
