It’s still a claim on your insurance which leads to your rates rising and paying a deductible.

It’s also just a fucking nightmare. My car was totaled by an elderly driver and even though everything was ultimately covered, it took WEEKS

What shite insurance do you have. I had someone cream my fender at BWI and not leave a note. I checked with my ins rep to make sure that wasn't true before filing the claim. It doesn't go up, same as if the person who hit you stayed around. (And that makes sense. It's not like it shows you're a bigger risk than they originally thought if it was the other person's fault.)

Have you considered my feelings? What if I don’t want the post traumatic stress that could occur from being randomly hit by another car and it speeding away. You could also empathize with the fact that my car could be totaled — and insurance often gives below fair market value of cars that are totaled. I mean, I could keep going but I hope you get my point.
