Extremely common bug that I think was generally just called “a bad cold” or regarded as a generic respiratory infection until recent years. Not sure what the catalyst for public adoption of its real name (RSV) was— I’d guess the pandemic.

RSV is very common in newborn babies as well and is especially deadly to pre-mature babies.

Indeed. If there’s a bright spot to the pandemic, it’s at least that some folks are now cognizant of how dangerous even “routine” illnesses are.
