God, this is awful. And, seriously, something's up with digestive cancers-- it feels like a lot more young people are getting them, which is an extremely disconcerting thought.

Indeed. If there’s a bright spot to the pandemic, it’s at least that some folks are now cognizant of how dangerous even “routine” illnesses are.

Extremely common bug that I think was generally just called “a bad cold” or regarded as a generic respiratory infection until recent years. Not sure what the catalyst for public adoption of its real name (RSV) was— I’d guess the pandemic.
