Only tangentially related, but my 80yo dad recently flew out of Manchester NH and bought parking online. One guess for which Manchester he bought parking? He said he drove around for 30 minutes looking for the parking garage only to have the lot attendant point out on his printed info he was going to have to drive a lot farther.

That's been their "bad decision" playbook pretty much since I was born, if not before. I thought at some point people would be sick of it. The House (edit: locally and nationally, it seems) is an utter clown show right now and the only ones paying attention to its complete and utter dysfunction are those who are smart enough to already know what a joke it is.

Well, my mom was one of those who was mistreated at CMC. She was let go from the hospital after a VT episode. Turns out they hadn't dosed her with enough medication to allow it to build up in her system. She had a heart attack on the way home and had to go back. Was never the same after. I wouldn't recommend that hospital to my worst enemy.

It does have a special, unique quality in its beauty that I haven't found anywhere else in my travels. Pillsbury State Park seems to encapsulate it publicly, but I find joy in its back roads, hills, woods, fields, and old farmhouses. I feel like it's one of the last places in Southern NH that money will change. It's much the same today as it was 45 years ago.

People have to make all kinds of nuanced decisions. This is why this argument will go on forever and forever be used as an effective wedge issue.

Public policy should be to educate, provide contraception, and basically make abortion as unnecessary as possible, but it seems some want to have it both ways - don't educate, don't allow abortion, providing free contraception is condoning (or encouraging) "free sex."

The worst cases are the women who need D&C's due to ectopic pregnancies and the like and can no longer get them or have to go through hoops to get them, and then there are those whose babies have severe abnormalities and who will only live for a while after birth and women are being forced to carry to term.

This is "compassionate conservatism" I guess.

Yes, it's still open. Home of the American Classic Arcade Museum. I grew up in the '70s and '80s so I try to get back at least once during my annual summer White Mtn vacation, but usually a number of the games I love to play are broken. Gotta be tough maintaining decades-old machines.

Yup. I remember as soon as they started talking about the dangers of BPA, suddenly there were 50 more "alternatives" that companies started using, some of which were actually worse. The plastics industry is gargantuan, and well funded politically. It feels hopeless, honestly. A forever game of whack-a-mole.

We are going to have to have a "come-to-jesus" moment with our love of cheap and useful plastics.

That's the GOP playback in a nutshell lately. When is the last time any Republicans in national office actually came up with a workable plan to address any issue facing their constituents? It's either tax cuts or culture wars and talk about "the evils of government," and that's all they got.

I guess we'll see, won't we? If I recall correctly, they were mostly talking about hot, humid summers. Certainly the last decade of summers in NH (especially June/July) have been MUCH more humid than anything I remember from my childhood (1970's). We used to get maybe a three or four day stretch during the summer where it was uncomfortable with no AC and we'd have a couple 90 degree days. That's very different from what I've experienced the last 10 years or so in NH over the summers.

Wow. Yeah, does seem to be the case. For the last couple of years, my dad (still in NH) has hired out his snow shoveling because it's mostly turned into heavy wet stuff and he's 80.

I don't remember that report, but I remember like a 2050 report that says NH will be like Miami by then. Hard to imagine, but it looks like if the 1990's report was correct, it all might still be on target.

Europe is MUCH more dense than most places in America. I don't think many have a grip on just how massive this country is, and how spread out people are. Burying lines in NH is just untenable. My full-time residence is on Long Island, which is subject to hurricanes, and even though the population is VERY dense (almost 8 million) the cost here to bury lines is *still* prohibitive.

Overhead power lines run around $100K per mile, but burying them can cost ten times that. With NH's already crazy energy prices, I think most people will deal with getting a generator for the occasional outage vs. stomaching a dramatic increase in rates.

I would imagine Vehicle-to-Home will become more and more popular in rural areas, where you can get solar and if you have a storm, just use your solar and car to power your house and say "eff you" to Eversource.

NH seems to be getting the kind of wet, heavy snow/mix that we used to get on Long Island 20 years ago. Now we just get rain. So another 20 years and you might not have to worry much about this. :D

I remember years of light, fluffy snow that "crunched" underfoot lasting for weeks when I was a kid. Guess those days are over.

And that's the day my neighbor decides to gather up all the yard waste - including wet leaves - and burn it, because it's so nice out and he wants to get a jump on the yard work. Ah, the smell of damp things burning throughout the house.

Yes, your searches will be much more effective searching for heat pump vs. Mini split.

Up for a week with my dad in neighboring NH. It has been in the teens at night and he hasn't turned on the oil yet. Keeps the house too warm for me - 78 lol. The heat pumps have had zero issue keeping up. You're gonna love 'em.

Heading north on 93 almost in Concord I believe you can see Mt Kearsarge in the distance. It's where 93 turns sort of northwest just as you hit the 89 exit to your right.
