Right on red started in the 70s during a gas crisis - allegedly to keep from people burning extra gas while waiting for lights. It was supposed to be a full stop with no traffic or pedestrians in sight, but you know how that went. It should have been abolished ago because people behave like idiots.

His idea is that the entire future LSP event crowds and usual people park visitors will use off-site parking... which he alleges will be the light rail parking lot....

Thanks. This stuff never ends. It's a constant assault of one kind or another. I figured I had the name wrong, but that's all I could could think of. :-)

Sam Pesin is the som of Morris Pesin, who is known as the founder of the park. Sam has been fighting rather valiantly for probably 30 years to keep corporate interests from taking over the park. It never seems to end. The first thing I personally remember was back when Bret Schundler was mayor and someone tried to put a waterpark in there. Then they wanted to race NASCAR or something similar through the park and parts of Jersey City. There is more, but it just never ends.

Renters are now in the same unhappy boat with homeowners who have been hit with big property tax increases. It stinks for everyone involved. The wailing will be deafening, but nobody cares. The never-ending stream of people with more money to burn are waiting to replace you, and they will consider your rent a bargain. âšī¸

What would the fields be used for? Dog walking? Play areas? Picnics? Who would pay to put the fields back to right after the public tramples or damages them? Who would be responsible for cleaning and maintenance expenses? I can't agree that this is a good idea when there are other park options readily available for general use.

You do realize that the budget comes from actual citizens who don't have the ability to endlessly shell out more money for taxes - just look at all the outcry about increasing rents in the luxury buildings. Even those people are feeling the pinch. That's why people are freaking out.
I have no idea why people get upset if JC is referred to as a small city. Who cares? NY is right across the river if they need to feel bigger. This is a glaring case of grandstanding and nothing else.

Spending money on culture may not be frivolous, but an extravagant museum that we will all end up subsidizing for millions of dollars is over the top. Jersey City doesn't lack culture, and NYC is right across the river, as if anyone could forget.

There are plenty of alternative parks around, maybe just not on your block. Many people don't have parks closer than about a mile away. Unless it's a pocket park (and we recently got one in our neighborhood), most of the parks are found on the outer edges of the city. Downtown has more than most.
Getting field time was never easy, especially for the older kids who had to share with different leagues. You didn't just get to walk out and grab a field for your game.it had to be scheduled. With so little else for kids to do, the little league fields should be hands off.

It's hardly a waste of space if your kid is in a league.

Reply to I See People Around Downtown Walking around with Their Reusable Shop-Rite Shopping Baskets. Where Can I get One of These? by lastinglovehandles
Too bad they can't do something like they do with the shopping carts and the locking wheels. If you cross the borderline of the parking lot, the bottom of the basket opens, and all the stuff inside falls to the ground, rendering their ill-gotten basket useless. Their obvious guilt, followed by them running after items rolling across the pavement, would provide much entertainment.
