I’m not trying to argue, as I’m sure you’re closer to the plain folk than I am, but is it a fact that Amish “usually always live on a farm”, or do we just associate them with farming work? Land for farming, even in PA, can be very expensive. I doubt these communities are full of wealthy people waiting to bestow farming money to their 13 children when they all reach adulthood. There are a ton of Amish carpenters, craftsmen, and various other occupations. I’d say it’s actually quite more likely the majority of the Amish are not farmers. I’m little just talking out of my ass while eating ice cream, so I’m probably wrong.

That’s decent money in NJ. Like others have said, so you got to be smart about your spending. Buy a used car, don’t go out for all your meals, don’t buy stuff you aren’t really going use/don’t need.

Your coworkers are complaining about money because NJ is an expensive state, and they’re likely like the majority of consumers in our country, and buy stuff all the time kinda just for the sake of it. I’m guilty at times too. Just control your spending and keep a budget and you should be fine.

Make sure you start investing though. That’s the smartest thing you could do. Start low, so you don’t overwhelm yourself, and then see how your bank account looks after a couple months. You could always increase your contributions if you can afford to do so.

I’ve been interested in living that way for a while now. Namely Absecon. Smithville, AC, and Batsto are all close enough. AC and Hammonton would have me covered for interesting foods. It’s also pretty woodsy in a lot of parts. Not sure if I’ll pull the trigger, but the area seems pretty ideal for me.
