I've not worked anywhere that doesn't keep the code you write as their property.
Not saying it doesn't happen, and I haven't really been contracting

You've answered your own question.
They're allowing free access to this particular bit of code.
The reasons are varied, but could include
-
Based on an already open source code
-
Used in a paid product or service. The extra support is offered for free
-
It is intended for academic use
-
Its just a small project that they don't want any money for
-
It is a requirement for a third party site or service that your code is made freely available
-
They just want to make it freely available
-
It is a legal grey area, and charging for it would definitely be illegal

Mate, no.
Digital storage lasts less than a decade. With so much of our current society stored online, future historians (assuming we survive long enough to have historians) will have almost nothing recorded to look into

Birds that hop around on the ground evolved to be roosting birds.
They spend most of their time in tree branches.
It is not an efficient mode of locomotion, though, so birds that forage on the ground evolved with longer, thicker legs in order to walk.
The trade off is that they aren't as strong or nimble flyers

They are equivocally, with no shred of a doubt

accurate.
Not only that, they can easily be fooled. Like, stupidly easily.
They need to measure a "baseline" to get your "at rest" heartrate, breathing, body temperature, etc. Just hold your breath for a bit, this can fool the baseline.
Fun fact:
William Moulton Marston invented the polygraph test.
He and his wife created Wonder Woman.

Unless you have certain underlying medical issues, occasional exposure is fine.
If you're taking an international you're being exposed to more radiation, anyway.
Doctors and nurses go behind a shield because it would be constant radiation over many years. This can and does cause health issues, not limited to cancer, but cancer is a big one

Sorry, typo.
Piezo. Charge builds up in a crystal when struck. This charge is dissipated as a spark

Because it is cheaper, reliable, and easier to manufacture.
You also don't have to worry about the peizo dying before the gas runs out
