8 minutes isn’t reasonable either. When I first moved here, I thought how great the metro was by comparison to the subways in NYC & Philly. DC metro is newer and cleaner but with these waits and lack of train staggered for those that have to chain lines, I’m eating those words. I’ll take dirty, grimy, and never having to check a schedule again any day.

Or the BK, or BX, or Queens, or Long Island while using a different address.

Reply to How to spot a bad flip by HighlightInternal633
Most of my way of telling a bad flip came from years of renting. What are all those cheap things landlords do that are annoying. Certain appliances that you find in large rental company properties and individual properties. Smells both good or bad. There should be no need to light all these candles unless you’re hiding something. Touch everything. Does the paint feel like quality paint or a finger nail could take it off? Just inspect things and ask questions. Try to look past the staging, you’re not buying the stuff and they’re trying to sell a product. Also, you can ask a seller to provide dates for when things were done. I bought a place (not a flip) and they sellers listed new roof last year, HVAC in 20XX, etc. I could tell the water heater was older because it doesn’t have that extra price but that’s fine I’ll use it till it breaks then it’s time for unlimited hot water 🥳🧖🏻♀️.

I don’t find it to be remotely similar to Hoboken. I’ve only been here a month and from my encounters it’s lots of young couples, families, and some older people who’ve been here since they raised their children. Aside from game days it’s relatively quiet but that’s the entire city and part of the fun. I don’t know if you’re familiar with Philadelphia at all but if you are I’d say this area reminds me of Old City and Queen’s Village.
In terms of flooding that’s another thing that drew me here after checking the flood maps this area is as safe as I’m going to get while still living by the water. Most of this area isn’t a federal flood zone. During the hurricane remnants last month most of the concerned posts we’re in the Locust Point and Fells Point area so I think they have some issues. I do get water in my basement but it’s ground water and very minimal. I’ve also heard horror stories in certain neighborhood about sewage backup and I think that also tends to be in that general area but I’m not entirely sure. Definitely watch out if that though, it’s so bad the city has programs for those effected.

I’m originally from NY and spent a lot of time in all the boroughs. I just bought my first home and it was important to me to have a brick rowhouse with those architectural details you find in older homes. Something with a history and that quality craftsmanship you just don’t kind in new builds. I ended up in Federal Hill. Walkability was also super important and I have 2 bars and a sushi place within a block so mission accomplished. There’s also Light Street and Charles St which, has tons of restaurants, bars, an arcade, the Cross Street market, and lots of ice cream/ desert places. Aside from all of that it’s only a mile long walk into the inner harbor. I really love it here and it sounds like your wish list has a lot of the stuff mine did, hope this helps.

I just moved here and don’t know about that man but in Philadelphia we have a lady like that, that would brunch at a restaurant called Parc. She always wears a very extravagant hat. She looks like she’s straight out of a novel. I feel like these two would be a perfect match 😂

It’s funny when I first moved here I was excited because it was so much cleaner, nicer, and larger than Philadelphia and NYC’s transit systems. Now I’d kill to be back with them even if they are dirtier and older. I never looked at a schedule until living here because there was always another coming in a matter of 2-3 mins.

Exactly, the idea that people around here think that 8 or 10 minutes is reasonable almost all other major cities worldwide have figured it out boggles the mind. Hell even with our crumbling infrastructure in the US this is way behind other cities like NYC, Philly, and Boston. I’m so sick of people saying be grateful for the crappy things we have when we’re trailing behind and paying a premium.
