Remember all the criminal apologists like to say here, “It’s not as bad as the 90’s.”

I called 311/911 for various issues and the city responded QUICKLY. Here’s a list:
- Our blocks trash was not picked up, the city sent a trash truck a few hours later.
- Alley lamp was out behind our house and within the week it was fixed.
- Street lamp was out on our block (parts of the block was pitch black), the city fixed the lamp with 24 hours.
- Bundy field in Shaw had nearly all of the flood lights out for nigh soccer. Within a reasonable time all of the lights were fixed. Within a year later they upgraded to LED lamps.
- Shooting on the corner of Quincy Pl NE and North Capitol last summer, police showed up within 3min?

Crime is way worse and Metro feels unsafe. Ignore the crowd that compares the crime in city to the 90’s. You’ll feel it for yourself, believe me. Also, H street and Union Market have changed A LOT.

That’s not surprising, over 2,000 of them were laid off and the feds barely understand Agile. Also, too many people get fixated on the big Silicon Valley companies, tech exists outside of the Valley and NYC.

The biggest issue pointed out by piece is, tech companies are now monopolies. How do we expect anything to get done or change when big tech just buys everything up?
