Vote Domb! He pointed out that the city’s operating budget has gone up 50% since 2015, but that city services have only gotten worse. He also mentioned prioritizing population growth.

While I don't know where their data comes from, the Center City District said that the population of "Greater Center City" (Girard to Tasker) has grown 4.3% since 2020.

The biggest losers were Los Angeles County, California (-90,704); Cook County, Illinois (-68,314); Queens County, New York (-50,112); Kings County, New York (-46,970); and Bronx County, New York (-41,143).
LA, Chicago, and NYC lost more, proportionally speaking. As usual, we are beholden to nation-wide trends.
Also, this data is to be taken with a grain of salt. They say we lost population from July '21 to July '22, this article states that we gained population from April '21 to April '22: https://localtoday.news/ny/philly-attracts-residents-from-suburbs-and-brooklyn-cellphone-data-shows-5778.html
"They found that while Philadelphia steadily lost population during the first year and a half of the pandemic, the picture has been more mixed since mid-2021. Between April 2021 and April 2022, the city’s population grew by 0.8%, while Brooklyn, Chicago and San Francisco have not experienced a single month of population increase since March 2020."

I'd blame the manufacturer for being cheap, and TikTok for the Kia/Hyundai challenge more than hating Philly for it. Insurance carriers have stopped covering them in other cities because this is such a problem. Don't leave us for the burbs :(

I love trees but I wish this would happen to my neighbor's humongous tree, it's the only thing keeping me from having an amazing view of the full skyline from my deck.

I live one street over between Oakford and Federal - though I just got here in December so I don't have a summer under my belt yet. That said, I really like it so far. Everyone I interact with in the neighborhood has been very nice, there are a lot of businesses opening on Washington, and it's a quick walk to plenty of places in Grad Hospital/South Street. Street parking is actually pretty easy, there are a lot of non-permit areas with spaces even late at night. OCF Coffee, Porco's/Small Oven Pastry Shop, and Dock Street Brewery are all a very short walk, and I feel fine walking outside at night.
The cons are that the area is still a little rough around the edges. The corner store at 23rd and Oakford usually has people hanging outside (though they haven't bothered me), I've heard about package theft (again hasn't happened to me), and depending on your block there can be lots of kids playing outside which is just bad from a noise perspective. Parts of Point Breeze are also just pretty drab.
Overall it's a good vibe. Lots of young people and families pushing strollers. If your friend is used to city living and also looking at Bonsall between Federal and Oakford, I think they would be fine. Still - I would actually think this is a better spot to buy due to the changes happening in the next couple years as opposed to renting, where they might want more amenities now. Is budget keeping them from Grad Hospital?
Sorry for the long-winded response!

Good to know, that is a little different. But yeah, I'm surprised they didn't take this measure years ago.

Why would any school dining hall have public access? Especially one in this area. Not a good policy at all, my campus was in a high-crime area of Norfolk, VA and you needed your student ID for access to just about any building.

Patco doesn't have them at the actual station entrances do they? As much as I take SEPTA I've never been on Patco at all. I meant that entry from the street should be completely barred to non-paying customers.
I am in agreement that police at the stations and walking the trains is needed/would do wonders. Whenever I see Septa PD sitting in cars outside a subway station I wonder wtf is the point. I was just thinking of a solution that might be easier to implement and wouldn't impact their operating budget as much.

They just need doorway length turnstiles at the entrance of every single station so that no one but paying customers can enter. That would probably instantly eliminate 80% of the issues without having to hire additional officers.

Just weird that people go out of their way to shit on Philly at every chance. Someone posted a pic of locked up stuff at a Philly Target on some other sub (also to shit on Philly) and people were commenting from like dozens of cities saying it was the same there.

Reply to comment by flamehead2k1 in Philadelphia Ranks #17 in Schroders Global Cities Index by ColdJay64
“Schroders’ Global Cities Index seeks to rank global cities across four key criteria: Economic, Environmental, Innovation and Transport. It also aims to identify the cities which combine economic dynamism with world-class universities, forward-thinking environmental policies and excellent transport infrastructure.”
Sharing that our city ranks well among global cities in these areas is misleading? It wasn’t intended to be.
