I deal with this all of the time myself. There isn’t anything that can be done. I just do extra deep cleaning, got an air purifier and a cool mist humidifier. I’m asthmatic so the smoke bothers me so damn much but the humidifier helps, especially when I put a few drops of essential oil in it. I hate the smell of smoke so much I can’t express it enough. It literally makes me sick. But there’s nothing we can do but try to get by financially and rent a house at some point in the future. Try to put your clothes in the room that smells the least like it and even spray essential oils in there every day

Okay so I can understand being upset because of struggling. Like living paycheck to paycheck and depending on SPS to have your child while you work. It’s rough. I have a baby and work full time and it can be hard to manage time off for things. But at the same time I love my child so much that getting to spend an extra “snow day” with him would be magical. I resent going to work and being away from him. But I can see if parents are struggling to afford basic bills and groceries and have to work why that would be a stressor. That’s the only reason I can think of to be stressed about a snow day anyways.

There are ups and downs everywhere but I do like this town. There are some nice things. Check out the bass pro aquarium if you can. I’ve been to many aquariums in different cities and this one is the BEST

That’s a great question!! I saw a post on Facebook where a woman had an eviction on her record from like 17 years ago and she is living in her car in Springfield even though she has good income AND credit. I really really hope she found a place. Luckily a broken lease is easier to deal with but no, it doesn’t disappear. I don’t know why it doesn’t and I don’t know how to make it go away but it is on the record probably forever. I was always told that stuff falls off but that isn’t what has happened in my case and for others that I’ve heard of.

I grew up in a rural town very close to Springfield. It was safe and just about everyone was upper middle class. I moved to Houston for about 5 years and had event attended school in south Houston for a few months while I was still a student. When I compare my small town school to that of the large inner city school, I got the best education in Missouri. I felt awful for my classmates in public school in Houston because as a sophomore, they were doing sixth grade math. I’m sure there were good private schools in that area but I didn’t attend those. I felt like my education was decent near Monett comparatively and I got an average ACT score with minimal effort (29 I think). When I lived and worked in Houston as a young adult, I liked how busy it was and how nobody cared about my business. The friends I had were much more direct than in Missouri. But I love and appreciate them on a much deeper level because there is an authenticity there that simply doesn’t exist in the Midwest. The people in the Midwest are lovely and friendly and will strike up a conversation. The crime rate is significantly lower and as long as you keep to yourself, you don’t have much to worry about. There is a downside to the friendliness here. And it’s the fact that everyone will be in your business. You won’t realize it at first. Your neighbors may run a background check on you. They will want to know every detail about you. This doesn’t represent everyone as a whole but it represents MOST of the people I love and grew up with. They will love you to your face but they will talk smack about you when you aren’t around. Just don’t take it personally and let it get to you. Springfield does have a lot to offer. The food is alright but not great. The shopping and entertainment isn’t as great as a larger city. But the cost of living is lower and life really does slow down here. People take their time when they do things. So it depends on what you’re wanting and what you value the most. I do love this community through the ups and downs. Oh yeah and one down side I forgot to mention are the redneck conspiracy theorists. There are lots of them. You can think you are speaking to a reasonable, rational person but then they open their mouth and Alex Jones comes out looool. So idk how much that matters to you. There are pros and cons to every place but I do think this place is decent. I have only lived here and Houston but I’ve also traveled quite a bit and I’m still here 😁. It’s a good place to get ahead and enjoy a slower paced life in general. Just don’t be too trusting and over share things even if you’ve been close to people for a long time.

This source doesn’t specifically say it’s a fire code but it’s the law regardless. Just another way to keep people from getting ahead of you ask me. It would mean so much for me to renew for 6 months and get ahead but because of these laws, it isn’t allowed. And unfortunately this company doesn’t currently have any 2 bedroom options available. I wish they did because I would just stay with the same place. I had no idea about the occupancy thing per bedroom. It makes sense but I think there should be an exception with a newborn. But since I had him 2 months ago and my lease is up in one month, I don’t have much time to plan. It’s stressful and I had never heard of a law so ridiculous prior to last week.

This thread is amazing. I am surrounded by conservatives 24/7. I didn’t know people could think critically in this area. I really had no idea!
