Reply to TIL that, as recently as 34 years ago, water from the Great Salt Lake was pumped into the desert so that the lake water level would not get too high. by SoBeefy
One reason why it's important the lake didn't get too high is the transcontinental railroad causeway goes right through the middle of the lake. It's still a very important railway and the causeway is not in great shape so flooding would be very bad for it beyond the obvious reasons. It's kind of interesting the water on the north side is a different color than the south side due to differences in chemistry caused by being separated by the causeway.

Reply to TIL: While in office, President Jimmy Carter had to physically defend himself from a rabbit. by Forever_Overthinking
It's the one thing he and Napoleon have in common.
Carter tried to play it off by calling it a "swamp rabbit" to try to make it sound more ominous and threatening. Some say it was probably a nutria and not a rabbit at all now.

Reply to TIL the phrase “you can’t handle the truth” was created/ improvised by Jack Nicholson. The movie's original screenplay boasted the line "You already have the truth," which Nicholson trimmed to "You can't handle the truth." by SixedSigma
Nicholson's version is much catchier and the Disney version makes a nice earworm.

I'd love to hear what you use them for. I saw lots of ideas on Amazon, but would love to see how someone else is actually incorporating them.

That's so cool, I did a little poking around on Amazon and there are so many new solar light products around now. Is there anything I should look for for a long lasting solar light product?

I didn't think about it like that, thanks. Disappointing, but I guess I should have realized.

Reply to comment by Jd20001 in TIL researchers found that the global average temperature from 19,000 to 23,000 years ago was about 46 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s about 11 degrees Fahrenheit (6 degrees Celsius) colder than the global average temperature of the 20th century, per a University of Michigan statement. by Embarrassed-Mouse-49
Interestingly enough there is the hypothesized snowball Earth period which was about 700 million years ago where it is thought the average temperature for the planet was between -50C.

Lots of things are taller than the Statue of Liberty, that's such a random comparison.
