Building up credit history in the US, this is exactly what I'm doing - every purchase I make is done on credit card, I then transfer the amount from my checking account at my earliest convenience via my bank's app.

NAL, but from what I've read, NJ doesn't have any specific laws regarding rent increases, but the individual municipalities may have such ordinances.

For example in Freehold, the increase can only be 90% (80% if tenant pays for heat) of the percentage difference in Consumer Price Index 4 months before the start of the current lease and 4 months before the implementation of the next lease. So from my understanding if it goes from 3% to 4%, then my rent can only be increased by a maximum of 0.9% if my dwellings are not exempt.

There are other things such as hardship and market price adjustments, but I don't really understand that as much. All I know is that my rent went up by 1.3%, so 17% seems like it'd be a significant amount in a rent controlled municipality.

Also a random ass Brit who looked for NJ advice about a year ago, and now I’m here!

There’s a bit of crossover for me - I lived in Hong Kong for a while, which included being there for some big typhoons. We didn’t have the temperature element that this storm has obviously, but the basics were the same - make sure you’ve got a few days of shelf stable food (enough for a couple of extra days beyond the expected storm duration), bottled water, charge everything, secure anything loose where possible.

3 hours has been fine for me thus far, and I've flown in/out of EWR 6 times this year from/to the UK. Never got 'squeaky bum time' for any of them, and this was getting in at around 6pm for a 9pm flight on Friday or Saturday each time. The way the lines snake around makes it seem like they're longer than they actually are.
