The criminal is clearly the issue here and needs to be off the streets. Crime is bad and shouldn't exist.

It's also the individual's responsibility to protect themselves and mitigate risk, since this is not a perfect fucking world, and crime exists. That includes being wary of displaying items of wealth in public spaces.

Both can be true. It's not an either/or. And it is not victim blaming to advocate exercising caution. We don't live in a fucking utopia.

It’s common fucking sense lmao. We don’t live in a perfect world. I would call wearing a Rolex in the subway also fucking stupid. Same with walking alone on the streets of East New York at 2am. Do they deserve to be robbed? Absolutely not. But is it a stupid thing to do? Yes, because it dramatically increases your chances of getting robbed.

We don’t live in a perfect world and it’s not victim blaming to point that out.

And the fact you compared this to rape shows you completely lack nuance in your argument.

This is not true

https://gothamist.com/news/how-nycs-2020-2021-snowfall-stacks-against-other-years

We have consistently, even in the ‘poor’ snowfall seasons like 2019-20, received some form of measurable snow prior to end January. This is the first time since the 70s we have received at maximum a dusting this late in the season (assuming it doesn’t snow the next 2 weeks, which it won’t per current weather patterns)

I can’t help but think at how much of a missed opportunity NYE fireworks are in this city.

Like yeah I get the ball drop is iconic and a tradition at this point, but it’s also fucking boring compared to the fireworks displays London and Sydney put up every year. Hell, London had a drone countdown clock this year which looked so cool.

Imagine fireworks on the east river and shooting out of the Brooklyn/Manhattan bridges. Could be so much cooler if they tried and more accessible to the rest of the city versus cramming a million people in a 10 square block radius.
