Because ozone and UV attack rubber. All rubber is shorter lived now because more ozone in the air. Mechanics complain bitterly that rubber boots (like CV or steering) degrade in only a few years, where they used to last 20 years. It’s not necessarily because rubber is made worse.

Recommend Plugable! I have been using a Plugable USB-3 7-port hub in my VW campervan for about 8 years with no trouble! It has been a rock solid performer throughout the heat, dust, vibration and humidity of New Mexico. Runs directly from the DC auxiliary system which can hit almost 15v from the solar panels, but has never burned out from overvoltage. Every port still works but now USB-C adapters are adding to its footprint in an already crowded van. Very impressed with it and when I do upgrade to USB-C I'll definitely be getting a Plugable hub.

I use an antique Revlon diamond file from the 1980s. They don’t make them anymore, understandably because they never wear out. Oh and I also use it to sharpen my cuticle nippers and tweezers. The plastic handle broke years ago but I replaced it with epoxied fiber.

I’m just going to warn you that the new machines are trouble. Water miser mode means you can never get a good rinse. For chemical sensitives that is a nonstarter. Very hard to select a custom wash cycle because they are all programmed. Even getting a decent hot water wash is difficult since they are optimized to conserve energy and use cold water detergent. I’d recommend bending over backwards to repair your old clunker.

Watch out. While ozone is a tremendously effective sanitizer, it does to by hyperoxygenating everything around it. So in the case of food I would be concerned you are creating excessive oxidants for your digestive system.

You would be better off peroxiding your carrots. Its an effective but gentler oxydizer.

I had a nice orange Le Creuset pot years ago that got a Corelle plate stuck inside of it. Unfortunately upn trying to remove the plate the pot broke. I was pretty flabbergasted, as it was cast iron under the enamel. Never bought one again.
