I’m not immune to propaganda. I realize the pledge of allegiance from 6 on, Boy Scouts, a lot of history classes taught American exceptionalism.

Elementary school they told us America was the only free country in the world. My friend was English and she insisted it was a democracy and the teachers are like “oh no they aren’t free they have a monarchy”.

Also before the fall of the Berlin Wall the maps were all the wrong size. They showed the us Canada and Western Europe to be bigger than the Soviet Union… Soviet Union fell and we got regular maps and I wondered why they bothered to lie to us about the size of the country.

One map the continental us was bigger than russia.

So yeah I recognize he’s had his and I have had mine and we have counteracting programming, so I admit I have been programmed by America to be pro US and anti china basically and he’s anti America (despite living here, being poor in china, and rich here), and I knew not to bother.

Another guy wanted me to agree to all these Chinese state talking points (9 dash line, etc) and agree freedom of navigation should be illegal bc it says china on the South China Sea… it’s like I believe in freedom of navigation, international law, free hong kong, free Tibet. He stopped talking to me.

Truth. A Chinese guy went full ji ping on me the other month and I just let it wash over me and said to myself “hes been drinking their Kool aid since as soon as he could absorb propaganda and so have I and they are alternate programs” so I didn’t bother to debate him on it. I just didn’t hang out with him again.

I have no idea. It’s honestly a made for tv drama half the time. Friends ask this, why do I go? I dunno. I guess my nephew and niece? Maybe we tell ourselves we have to? Always have.

It’s way easier if not a holiday. They’re somehow more explosive.lots of trouble all around because it’s a holiday. Maybe not. I am asked this and I dunno. We are just scratching the surface here with this. It’s some Netflix shit.

There is a storm. It’s take pages. I have gone into it in other threads. There has been a ton of shit.

I last saw my parents at thanksgiving in duress and haven’t seen since then.

It all.

What kind of company? Are you on the section 8 waiting list? If you’re not get on it asap. Also action for boston community development, abcd, knows all about housing and resources. I’m in an affordable unit bc they helped me find it. It’s still 1410 but I applied for section 8 a long time ago and I eventually got it but I have a really nice place now… so it’s 30-40% of your income instead of the full price. It doesn’t cover what apartments cost in boston unless you have affordable housing.

Western Massachusetts is beautiful, it’s where the water in boston comes from, there is virtually no crime, other than students being students.

Plenty of beautiful trails and stuff. Plus there are a lot of camping areas right around amherst, I remember Greenville being cheaper, maybe if you had a couple of room mates out there?

Yeah western mass is where the water comes from. It was a lot cheaper than boston when I went to school out there. I’m not sure what rates are like now though.

Just check western mass Craigslist.

What jobs do you do and what’re you skilled at? Edx had a sliding fee where you can take their classes at a library and get a verified certification that shows up on LinkedIn in a ton of different subjects and sometimes these are almost as good as a degree but practically free in comparison.

One time my whole family was fighting and we had an aluminum pole in the garage so I got it out and put it up and was like festivus for the rest of us! The airing of grievances.

I mean we fought so much over thanksgiving I left before the food hit the table. Last Xmas the fighting got so bad I got thrown out along with my parents, on Xmas. It was a disaster.

I wonder what’ll happen this year.

I know they’re from all over and it should be a distributed problem. How about we make every town share the burden? They did this with the projects building them in towns like Arlington where there are better schools.

Areas with high cost of living probably have high cost of labor too.

I’m fine with distributing it equally across the commonwealth. As long as we aren’t seriously displacing people from family.

There also needs to be the treatment infrastructure in place which boston has going for it. They could build clinics right into these places and have substance abuse counselors, mental health specialists and nurse practitioners on hand to take care of medical needs and detox.

There also need to be jobs for these people. I mean in more rural areas they could run their own farm and grow their own food and stuff.

Maybe locate them near vocational training? My brother said ford mechanic school is free now bc of a shortage of workers.

Yeah, they don’t accept facts, they don’t accept main stream media, they don’t accept academia, quoting anything, anything I’d consider real information, is “triggering” to them and they all get upset.

They’re quick to threaten violence, they try to anger liberals any way they can to “own a lib” and I have dubbed them “cons” for con people and short for conservative… I just don’t know how to talk to them.

If we don’t agree on a common set of data to interpret the world through, if they believe qanon and all these “deep state” conspiracies, how do I even get through to them?

I remember a time of being able to have a rational debate with a con and not calling them cons bc they hadn’t dubbed me a “libtard” yet… but it’s like okay we disagree on issue Y, where can we meet in the middle so as to get the policy passed?

I just don’t see this nowadays. The divide has been widening since I was a child and we are more divided now than ever before.

I don’t know how it gets better.
