Triangle Park is up the block and it has been the scene of shootings this past year. Cops are stationed there though. That being said, that block is actually not bad. You are close to the lightrail and multiple bus stops. As for your commute, I go to LIC once a month and live in the Greenville area. It does suck but its not the end of the world. I have to be in the office by 7 am and leave around 4, so i am catching the beginning of rush hour. Driving in is easy but the afternoon sucks. I know a lot of people who work in Queens and live in JC and they do just fine with the commute (they use public transportation). Obviously living in queens would be easier but don't think commuting from JC is impossible. A lot of homes in queens are selling for over 600K so i can see why JC is an option.

Rumbas in the heights is very good. There is a very good selection of peruvian places to. But you cannot go wrong with any spot on Central to be honest.

I almost threw up reading her statement. She obviously can care less about hitting that guy. What kind of person keeps driving after hitting someone? She didn't even slow down. Yes, he ran the red light but any sane person would say "oh S***" and stop to check on the person. I personally think she may have been drunk or something. She has absolutely 0 moral ground to serve as anything.
In another note, the two guys holding the "Amy must go banner" deserve a beer!

It really depends on what kind of budget you are working with. I saw in the comments that you want a 2 bedroom no higher than $2500. You can easily find normal apartments for that in the Heights, Journal/ McGinley Sq, luxury may be pushing it. You could find something in that price range in downtown but you will probably be on the fringes of the area. West Side Ave (by the light rail station) is a good option to.
Another option could be Bayonne. You MAY be able to find luxury housing for that price (1 BR is more likely though).

Extra on MLK is good. If you have a car, Acme on 440 and Shoprite in downtown are good options. There is a stop and shop and Lidl in Bayonne as well. I would recommend to do your shopping early in the morning, less crowded.

Advanced Auto Body in Bayonne. They have been in business for years and do great work.

I have eaten here a few times. Its not terrible but its not a must go (Brownstone was better). Its definately very pricey. The service isn't bad ( i have never had any issues). I know the owner's daughter bought it and decided to rebrand everything. Don't know why because it was just fine when it was Brownstone. The last thing that area needed was another trendy spot. Have no idea why they close early when they are missing out on a lot of potential business later at night.
Laraujo31 t1_j419lrp wrote
That area has gotten a lot better over the years. If your walking home from the path after work (6-8 PM) you should be ok since there are a lot of people walking around at that time. There is also a college down the block. If you are really concerned about your safety (or don't feel like walking) you can always catch a bus from JSQ. I would not recommend walking alone late at night, but that goes for most cities.
Laraujo31 t1_j3m576a wrote
Sounds like you are afraid of confrontation. In order to get this issue solved, you need to get over that fear first. Then you mark your driveway and tow the car every time it is blocking you. Unfortunately, some people take your whole arm when you offer them a hand. I had a similar issue a while back. One of our neighbors would work on his car in MY driveway lol. The driveway has gates but i would leave it open because I was to lazy to open and close it every time i moved my car lol He would do it while i was at work so we never noticed. We only found out when my wife stopped working (due to the birth of our daughter) and caught him. I tried being nice about it but he pretty much told me to go F myself since he felt he can use it since no one was home. So after that i always shut the gate. People will walk over you if you let them.

Reply to Moving to NJ, how is Journal Square? by TouchPorcelain
So i saw that you make 57K a year and unfortunately (unless you get a roomate) that puts most of downtown JC (esp close to the light rail and path) out of your price range. Rutherford and Secaucus are similar to Palisades Park (nothing to do and you need a car to go grocery shopping). JC heights isn't bad but rent has been going up and only type of public transportation available in that area are buses. JSQ seems to be the most logical choice for you. Rent is not as high as other areas (but will get higher as they build it up). The area isn't a warzone so a single female should be ok but i wouldn't walk around by yourself at 2 am (same goes for downtown JC). You can do this in Secaucus, Rutherford, and Palisades Park but like i mentioned before there is really nothing in those areas.
Have you looked into Bayonne? Its more residential but its right next to JC, public transportation is pretty good, and it has a good amount of gyms and supermarkets. You can get away with not having a car in Bayonne.

Reply to What salary is needed to live comfortably in a studio apartment in Jersey City? by Venomtris
Since you are looking for a studio i will assume you are single. If your looking to live in downtown or the heights 100k. With some penny pinching you could get by with 90K. If your looking at other parts of the city then you should be ok with 60K to 70k. Obviously, i have not taken into account student loans or any other things that may affect you finances so that figure may have to go up.

Reply to Is moving to NJ (JC/Hoboken/Weehawken) from Florida worth it to live and experience NYC? by virginiarph
Weehawken is nice but its difficult to get around with no car. Plus your only option to get into the city would be a bus. Sounds like downtown JC and Hoboken are your best bets. NYC is easily accessible from both areas. Downtown JC (the further you are from a path) is a little lower in price. Only drawback about Hoboken is that you have a lot of drunk people on weekends since there are bars everywhere. In downtown JC, majority of bars are concentrated on Newark ave and the surrounding area. So if you live away from the street, it is quieter.

Its not terrible but its not good either. If you are on the right side of JFK (going towards Bayonne) its not bad. The closer you get to old bergen road, the more sketchy it gets. If you are close to JFK then you should be ok.

Well said! However, i disagree with the thought that the kid will probably end up dead or in jail before 25. The cards are stacked against him but he can still make something of himself.

I would have to disagree. Republicans just want to throw as many people in jail as possible just so they can pretend they are doing something without addressing the actual problem. Also, majority of Democrats were against defunding the police. They just want accountability.

Multi family properties are a great way for those who cannot afford a 1 family home to be able to own a home. Again, owning a property and trying to make money from that property is a source of income. Nothing wrong with that.

As others have pointed out you should take the cost of using your car (tolls, gas, etc) into account. But even after taking the cost of commuting into account, it is probably less expensive to live in NJ. Depending on your workhours, traffic may not even be that bad.
Best of luck!
