I took out a 2.5 year loan on an $11,950 CAD/$8,900 USD 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth in 2020. I paid it off early. The total interest paid was some $750 USD/$1,000 CAD. The loan ensured I always had enough cash reserves to take care of any issues that might crop up during maintenance and mods.

It might not be a $100K USD vehicle, but man is this thing ever fun to toss around on twisty country roads! 😁

Sydney Pollack in Tootsie. He both directed and starred in the movie! He played George Fields, Michael Dorsey's agent. Dustin Hoffman had to convince Pollack to play the part. Pollack wanted Dabney Coleman to play the agent, but recast him instead as the sleazy soap opera director.

It's amazing just how much punishment these things can take. Look at Air France's Flight 447. Not only did the recorders survive the initial crash, they also survived being at the bottom of the ocean for years! And in spite of all this, the data was fully recovered and explained exactly why the flight crew failed miserably at their jobs.

There was also the problem of accessibility. The A380 is a HUGE airplane that demanded a lot of ground support. Airports had to modify their runways, taxiways and gates to accommodate the monster. That severely limited the number of destinations the aircraft could visit.

Then there's the problem that it's very difficult to fill up such a huge plane on lesser popular routes. It's much better to use multiple smaller medium to long haul aircraft that can land at any medium sized airport and fit perfectly at the gate, greatly increasing the number of destinations and departures available to flying passengers.

The A380 was conceived at a time when huge aircraft were still very popular, but the market and technology had both changed by the time the plane was put into service.
