Reply to As Late-Night Prepares For Major Overhaul, What Does 2023 Look Like For Evening Talkers? by gtjacket231
There’s have been a few times where they rotated hosts on shows the ratings went up. It should tell ya late night is more about the guest than the host. Long gone are the days of i gotta see the monologue.
Ferguson on the late late show may have been the last time late night got my attention. Thankfully clips are all over YouTube.
Late night talk shows don’t mean anything when celebrities are doing hot ones on YouTube. When content is clipped out for social media.
And I think for the most part celebrity isn’t that big of a thing anymore. I think some YouTube shows get better views than most of late night.

I’m gonna state an unpopular opinion and tell you to skip 1883 altogether. As for Yellowstone I go fifty fifty on it as a show. When this current season I lost interest. I did like the first episode of 1923 but I got concerns

I forgot to cancel my prime and re upped for another year. Prime is the five dollar dvd bin at Walmart of steaming services you occasionally find a gem but Jesus there’s so much shit to go thru to get it. Really outside of the boys and boush there’s not much else. Man high castle crashed bad. Mozart in the jungle went sideways fast. Marvelous mrs maisel is infuriating in how such a premise is wasted on midge being so clueless. I could go on. I used to only use prime but as more and more shows got pulled it just the leftover crap I never watched.

Reply to Dr. Phil is just one big advertisement for addiction/mental health clinics, his companies, and those he's invested in. by [deleted]
Blame Oprah she made this guy he used to get a weekly show on her show. He spun off from that. Back when Oprah got sued over the mad cow disease thing she reached out to dr Phil for a coaching. He made an impression. He his tv career was launched from her show. Dr Phil almost immediately took shit as he began selling weight loss books. Dudes overweight telling people how to lose weight. His kid was selling books at one point as a teenager. Under the dr Phil banner zero qualifications he’s just selling books giving advice.
Talk shows have always had a sketchy past. They pay the guests w dinners free travel nice hotel rooms. It’s a free vacation for embarrassing yourself on tv. The guests are either willing or manipulated by producers to get results.
Jerry springers producers would often call the same guests with rather leading questions “ do you know anyone who is white married adopted 6 black kids who’s racist ?” If they wanted back on the show the answer would be well I’m white and I adopted 4 black kids and I’m member of the KKK.
Oh we didn’t know that can you do the show
Then they would go on and follow the premise they laid out for vacation.
No matter how many times it made news in the 90s that daytime tv shows were fake the audience grew and grew and people were absolutely convinced it was real.
Dr Phil to me has always been shady but people watch him buy his services buy his books. Really no different from Morton Downey jr Jerry springer or the queen herself Oprah. Martha Stewart created the business model of using daytime talk show format turning it into a infomercial for selling merchandise from her own company. Oprah and dr Phil followed. Remember Oprah had book clubs and magazines?
People also think shows like survivor are real too.

I watched it all out of order
I didn’t even finish 1883 seemed like a show that didn’t pay attention to its own previous episodes. Let’s just say the language barrier quickly disappears.
Yeelowstone is losing me as a viewer as well
Highly recommend the first season after that I enjoy certain stories about certain characters. This current season really is rubbing me the wrong way. I won’t give any details to avoid spoilers

I keep seeing this. 57 years for a pick up. Star Trek was picked up after a second pilot. Most of the original cast of the Cage was wanted for the second pilot. Majel was not going to be number one. For various reasons they didn’t return. Jeffrey Hunter thought himself as a movie star and really didn’t want to do tv. He wasn’t contractually obligated to return.
Strange New Worlds really is it’s own thing not a pick up from near 60 years ago. And it’s all Star Trek in various shapes and forms.

Reply to TV shows with similar premises where one show is much better than the other by mranimal2
There’s a Get Shorty tv show btw
I’d say the first time I ran into this was Parker lewis can’t lose and the Ferris buellers day off ( the tv show)
Parker lewis was amazing Ferris was a quick cash grab to counter program against Parker lewis
I keep telling any fans of Scubs to track down Parker lewis bill Lawrence was good friends with the writers on Parker lewis. The influence is pretty obvious
