There are a lot of examples in China where it looks like kerning but it’s not (as in keming). I think this is because someone typed something they were copying. If they don’t know the word, it’s just letters.

The hospital taught you wrong (unless they were just talking about pathogens in general). COVID is spread by air, not by hands or dirty masks. Masks do help but only so much. If 80% of people around you in a subway car have COVID, the mask is probably not going to be enough.

This American Life had a segment about how terrible this song is. Ira Glass hates it. The worst part is when Sinatra (or Anka) suggests he has regrets, but “too few to mention.” So introspective and relatable !

Kodansha is a book publisher. To my knowledge they don’t have an actual animation studio but they do co-produce anime adaptations of their manga.

"On the part of" is an idiomatic expression for something that is done by someone or something. Normally there is an extra "the" in there. "Good on the part of Taiwan" just means "Taiwan did something good." It doesn't have anything to do with Taipei being a part of Taiwan. They could have also said "Good on the part of Taipei" or "Good on Taipei's part."

Usually it's "good on the part of Taiwan" or "good on Taiwan's part." However, it was really obvious what you meant so I do suspect the person complaining is not a native speaker.

The frame joke should also have a conclusion of its own. You can’t just end the joke with the last item. That’s like ending the One Thousand and One Nights with just another story. What happened to Scheherazade?

You didn’t ask if there is misconduct in research (obviously there is). You asked if people are pumping out papers “like this” (implying the paper in the link above is clickbait) because it is good for publicity. The publicity comes from people who write articles for popular media.
In this case, this is just being publicized by a university because it is good for their reputation. CU is not engaged in “clickbait.”
“The authors stress that another pandemic is not imminent, and the public need not be alarmed.” At best you could say that the headline could cause people to draw the wrong conclusions, but the article and the paper it is discussing aren’t an issue.

Researchers don’t do that. People who write articles pick up on actual research and then spin it for an article (although obviously there are good articles written for the general public too).
