Kind of a boring list since over 75% have the same answer.

I'd be curious to see what else made the Vermont list - I know it's an old movie but going to Vermont is the entire plot of White Christmas so I'd hope to see that on there.

I was surprised to find White Christmas was not the Vermont choice... seems like a no-brainer.

Whoever down voted this is a fool. It’s an iconic film that takes place in Vermont

Cigarette_N_Bandaids t1_izo2yb8 wrote

I don’t disagree, but I found it unwatchable and certainly wouldn’t vote for it.

6

That’s fair, but gremlins? That just embarrassing

Agreed but Just because other states can’t do better doesn’t mean Vermont shouldn’t 🤣

Are you for real? James Bond was made in Hollywood… none of his movies take place in LA. I don’t think you’re understanding what it means by takes place :)

Yeah, I totally don't know what that means. I'm sure you could fill me in :)

Also, I'm definitely not a smug, condescending douchebag. Not at all. Nope. Not me. Never ever. :)

Gremlins IS one of the best Xmas movies! I would have gone with Santa Slay, Rare Exports, or Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 personally, though Violent Night has quickly ascended my Xmas movie tier list.

Spear-of-Stars t1_izno5v1 wrote

My cousin is in one where a grandma chases her around the house on Xmas, trying to murder her. She didn't put that one on her IMBD for some reason lol.

One of my old friends was in a number of those gridnhouse flicks before she got on Two and a Half Men and other reputable projects. She doesn't admit it either.

8

VinnieVonVictrix t1_iznqr57 wrote

That's awesome. I'm an unashamed fan of holiday horror flicks. They're always fun, usually quite terrible and very entertaining to watch with a couple friends in a MST3K way.

4

Spear-of-Stars t1_izo3pnn wrote

It's always a milestone when you can enjoy a slasher or monster of the week film with the next generation in the family to turn 12.

2

Biauralbeats t1_iznoyfe wrote

Truth requested. Violent night a worthwhile in the theater investment or wait to stream?

6

VinnieVonVictrix t1_iznr7fc wrote

I really enjoyed it. It's nothing special plot wise, and there's some stuff I really wish they'd expanded on (though I'm betting they're hoping for a sequel for that), but for just old school violent action it's awesome. There's at least one fight that's pretty John Wick feeling, and a whole Home Alone but that's utterly hilarious. David Harbour and the lead kid are both pretty great.

Palace 9 is showing on their $5 Tuesdays if you're really up in the air, but I thought it was worth full admission enough to want to see it again.

5

burke_no_sleeps t1_izofg85 wrote

I mean.. it's an entire movie about middle class (New York?) people getting tormented by ugly, destructive little monsters. I fully understand why Vermonters would pop that on to feel cozy and Christmassy, lol.

Santa Slay is a holiday tradition in our house, lol

Skipping both Black Christmases?

5

VinnieVonVictrix t1_izolbc3 wrote

See: I like Black Christmas 1 quite a bit, but 2's an "Only if it's already on" for me. I don't hate it, but I'm not going to seek it out to watch it if ya know what I mean. There's just too many other awesome Xmas horror (horrible?) flicks to choose from. I mean there's Jack Frost!

We could write our own Christmas movie that confronts the existential dread of climate impacts on our environment. Or maybe some sort of cosmic horror.

1DollarOr1Million t1_iznya1o wrote

Hell yeah. Gremlins IS the best Xmas movie.

Although these days for me if I’m watching a movie at home on Xmas, it’s 100% Harry Potter. Something about the wintertime scenes in those movies just gets the Xmas vibe right. I went to the hogwarts land at Universal Orlando just before Xmas 2019 and it was such a vibe.

I've always thought VT and Puerto Rico were secret spiritual twins.

Ever been down there? Really terrific people mostly just trying to get by, weird blend of old-school dying-out agricultural communities tucked up in the mountains on terrible dirt roads, abandoned military/industrial infrastructure, quaint gussied-up tourist-oriented towns competing cheek-by-jowl in the most desirable beach locations, incredible natural beauty under threat by global warming, lots of quirky one-offs like corn mazes and tree-top ziplines trying to find a financial niche. Sound familiar?

Also, the signature "coqui" frogs sound basically like our peepers, except there's always a few calling year-round instead of our seasonal flash-mob.

I seriously recommend PR if you ever want to bug out of Vermont in February.

5

sugarplummed t1_izt7vjd wrote

1

greenmtnfiddler t1_iztlau4 wrote

Have you ever been sitting near a window in early spring in VT on a property that has some sort of pond/stream/swamp/vernal pool/puddle?

And you can't hear yourself think because of something that sounds like a million tiny tiny parakeets hollering NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! NEAP! crossed with the violin soundtrack from the famous shower scene in Psycho ?

Those are peepers.
