I think it’s important to remember that it’s highly unlikely that anything will be built - rail or bus rapid. The last time MTA built an extension to the system was in the late 1990s. Until MTA is reformed and taken away from state control, nothing will be accomplished.

Noticed your username and I have to say there is a pretty cool little museum west of Downtown called the Irish Railroad Workers Museum. They are only open on weekends, but I think they have a little gift shop.

It’s worth noting that the ridership numbers begin to slide when Hogan became governor. MTA is a state agency and decisions are really made in Annapolis. Does anyone think his willful devaluing of mass transit in Baltimore has something to do with this slide? Remember, no other subway line in the country has seen this level of constant decline. It can’t just be COVID or working from home. It has to be something more.

I don’t buy it. The Baltimore Metro is the only heavy rail subway in the country to see an overall drop in ridership through the first half of 2022. Philly’s SEPTA subway saw a 37% increase over the same period. Chicago’s CTA subway and Elevated lines saw a 60% increase. There’s no way to see Baltimore’s subway as anything but an outlier.

The Parkway is a gem and you should definitely see it. The corner of Charles and North can be “sketchy” after dark, but don’t let that frighten you. Keep your eyes open and walk with confidence. FWIW, I wouldn’t venture east of Calvert Street or linger around the alleys off Maryland Ave. otherwise, you should be fine.
