Keeping my fingers crossed that Wes Moore will build the Red Line. Better 120 years late than never.

Don’t run around Hanlon Park. That neighborhood just south of Liberty Heights Ave is rough. Stick to Ashburton or hop a bus and head for the Harbor. Plenty of safe places to jog down there.

The biggest problem I see is the complete lack of rail options in East Baltimore.

Noticed your username and I have to say there is a pretty cool little museum west of Downtown called the Irish Railroad Workers Museum. They are only open on weekends, but I think they have a little gift shop.

Reply to Is the Metro subway dying? by Rubysdad1975
It’s worth noting that the ridership numbers begin to slide when Hogan became governor. MTA is a state agency and decisions are really made in Annapolis. Does anyone think his willful devaluing of mass transit in Baltimore has something to do with this slide? Remember, no other subway line in the country has seen this level of constant decline. It can’t just be COVID or working from home. It has to be something more.

I don’t buy it. The Baltimore Metro is the only heavy rail subway in the country to see an overall drop in ridership through the first half of 2022. Philly’s SEPTA subway saw a 37% increase over the same period. Chicago’s CTA subway and Elevated lines saw a 60% increase. There’s no way to see Baltimore’s subway as anything but an outlier.

Reply to Moving to Baltimore for grad school at Johns Hopkins, which neighborhoods close to campus would you recommend living in? by DvrthKen
Medical School? Neighborhoods south of the campus (particularly south of Baltimore street) are safest. For Homewood campus, you have plenty of options with Charles Village being the most urban and dense and Hampden having more of a small neighborhood feel.

I’m talking about the Greek Orthodox Church owned buildings. They are demolishing for a prayer garden, not school expansion

You know, the Christian thing to do would be to fix these buildings up and use them to house the homeless, Central American immigrants, Ukrainian refugees, etc. etc. etc.

Can’t be the only one who thinks this is a supreme waste of perfectly good buildings.

The Parkway is a gem and you should definitely see it. The corner of Charles and North can be “sketchy” after dark, but don’t let that frighten you. Keep your eyes open and walk with confidence. FWIW, I wouldn’t venture east of Calvert Street or linger around the alleys off Maryland Ave. otherwise, you should be fine.

Please get the catalytic converter cage. I had it installed on my Prius and the total cost was $300. Worth it, in my opinion.

Reply to MTA Central MD transit initiative by granulabargreen
I think it’s important to remember that it’s highly unlikely that anything will be built - rail or bus rapid. The last time MTA built an extension to the system was in the late 1990s. Until MTA is reformed and taken away from state control, nothing will be accomplished.
