Isnt that the entire point of working for government. You dont get great pay but you get great benefits. You take away the great benefits then no one will want to work for city government.

I think most people would be against this. You forget nyc did vote a cop as mayor.

>“In recent years, district attorneys have moved to vacate many more criminal cases going back dozens of years which have led to an increase in the number of reverse conviction suits and related payouts,” said Nick Paolucci, a spokesman for the city’s law department. >

You do realize any shortfalls in the pension system the city still has to cover, so how is that going to work? And you are bringing up something from 30 years ago where i wouldn't be surprised if half the cops weren't even born yet, considering all the young face cops i always see.

I want to be outraged, but it seems the majority of it is from overturned convictions from decades ago. What can you do at this point.

Glad to see Alvin Bragg continues to not be able to hold any criminals accountable, even corrupt cops.
They should be transparent and explain why this case was dropped.

If the lirr and metro north just shared tracks, then it wouldn't have been as far to the train platform and would have saved billions of dollars and would of been open years ago

Well first off your numbers are wrong at least here in nyc. A cop starts here at 42k and goes to 85k after 5 years. They make six figures with overtime. And the idea of abolishing it and starting over isn't even realistic. You need to make changes now when it comes to standards and unfortunately seeing those changes will take some time to see.

Honestly i think knowing the outcome most people would take that trade off anyday.
But once again it comes down to the quality of police officers we are hiring and training. We need higher standards for them but the city continues to lower them. One way to get better police officers and retain them is by paying them more. But most people on reddit already think they make too much, so its going to be an endless loop of dealing with situations like this.

It sounds like the union presidents of the uft and dc37 have complete control over the MLC considering they get 1 vote per 250 members and those 2 unions have way more members then any other union. That would suck to be in another union and to have your healthcare controlled by another union boss.
