I think it’s kind of funny and sad that people are hoping against hope that Mastadon could be a viable alternative for Twitter, and are basically lying to themselves out of frustration because they don’t actually like Mastadon but now feel like they are “stuck” with it being the only viable alternative. And the cherry on top of that is that the people who run Mastadon don’t give a flying fuck about what the people are clamoring for and are actively refusing to listen to user feedback, all because they are on some sort of religious crusade that has nothing to do with any sort of market research, any sort of user feedback — they are just sitting there smelling their own farts while letting this great and transformative opportunity go to waste.

I don’t think Mastadon has a chance in hell of ever going mainstream, simply because the people who run it don’t give a fuck. It’s one thing to stick to your guns, but it’s another thing to be an arrogant fool.

Years ago, people left Digg to move to Reddit — which worked out, because at the time Reddit was a genuinely good platform. Same thing happened when people Left MySpace for Facebook, it was actually an improvement in many ways. This time, with Mastadon, it’s different because Mastadon is such a huge downgrade from what people were used to, and there is no will from the developers to do anything about it.

Seriously? This show was horrible! It’s just absolute trash. The only reason it’s even a mild curiosity is because of an early appearance by Bill Skarsgard which, I suppose, for a certain kind of audience is more than enough.

26% on Rotten Tomatoes, by the way.

There are a lot of good TV shows out right now that can make you feel a little happier, smarter, sexier, funnier, more excited — or more scared, if that’s what you want. This is not one of them. Don’t let it kill 30 hours of your life.

There are many versions of the Adams Family, but as far as I’m aware the “only” version that portrays Gomez as “handsome and suave” were the two movies from the 90s.

In all other versions, they were always meant to be “creepy-looking”, which probably works best with the overall aesthetic about this family being a bunch of frightening weirdos transplanted into a modern setting.

Let me freshen your champagna? Caviar? No? Okay. You know, champagna is not champagna unless it comes from the province of Champagne. I learned that in Bartending School. May I take a photograph? Simple photograph? Please? Wonderful! Now... take your top off -- only kidding! Haha! Totally! That is... unless you would like to? No? Okay, it's a joke! Joke from old.

Forgive me, my little frightened, wide-eyed doe. I see I've upset you. Sit, please! How about a glass a champagna? No one can resist the lure of those delicate bubbles, each whispering the same message of love. Did you see my painting? I got it from Target.

Please, taste the champagna! AH, whoops! What happened, what have I done? I have spilled some champagna. All over your boob. How wonderful! They look like two ripe melons... drenched in morning dew! [gets sprayed with mace] Wow! Wowie-wow-wow! Only kidding! I have been sprayed so many times, I have developed immunity to mace. Such is life. More champagna?

[Join us again next week, for another chapter in the life of... The Continental.]

What’s stopping a fantasy setting from “having every 4th person black”?

“Oh but it’s not realistic…” Correct. It’s a piece of fantasy.

“But I want fantastical things to be grounded in realistic things…” Fantasy does not need to follow this rule, and if you were a real fan of the genre, you’d realize that.

Starting in 2019 the COVID-19 pandemic is thought to have given an extra boost to the growth of the sport as people sought alternatives to indoor activities. In 2021 and 2022 the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) officially reported that pickleball had become the fastest growing sport in the United States two years in a row. Over those years the number of players increased almost 40% to 4.8 million players. Some estimates predict there could be as many as 40 million players by the end of the decade.

NBA player LeBron James, retired NFL quarterback Drew Brees and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk have all made investments in professional pickleball teams, spreading exposure of the sport.
