What are you looking for? What are your priorities in terms of house search? JSQ is pretty vague and there are pockets which are nice and others that are run down but not dangerous.

So a couple of things:
-
I hope you had photos of the apartment when you guys moved in.
-
Any text messages you have to/from him describing the situation of poor heat, etc may help when going to court.
-
He is legally obligated to return your security deposit within 3 days with an itemized list of deductions (if any are applicable). Things that fall under normal wear & tear are not able to be deducted. More details are here
This office may be able to help you: https://jerseycitynj.gov/cityhall/HousingAndDevelopment/housingpreservation/landlordtenantrelations
Edit: Councilman Saleh is probably your councilman and may also be able to assist you.

Reply to comment by Substantial-Floor926 in Recommendations for gyms that are not crowded by NB0073
You're on the right track. Often times these gyms use median income when deciding where to expand. With Jersey City having such a large population, the median income is 41k. We know most people downtown make much more than that if rent in buildings is upwards of 4k in a high-rise at this point. Seems like a lot of these large corporate gyms have to catch up.
Space is probably also a concern, but I can't see why one of these developers won't come to an agreement for a large commercial gym before they build. Seems like an easy way to make a ton of $ off first-floor commercial.

There was a meeting last year about finding space for a dog run in Pershing Field that both Boggiano, Saleh, and the PF neighborhood association seemed to be behind. No update since then though. I don't know why they can't simply convert the smaller field and use the larger one for baseball and softball with temporary fencing they can put up for outfield walls for softball/LL.

Which Terminal? If you're not flying United, I've found that Terminals A&B never have precheck open. Almost missed a flight last year because it took forever to get through security. I'd definitely suggest 2 hours.

Washington Park Dog Park is the best in the area. Given it's size, there's more room for the dogs to not be on top of one another. People there are also generally friendly and good dog owners (though there are a few that aren't).
There was talks about putting a dog park in Pershing Field but I havent heard anything since the Fall.

Did you catch either dog's name?
I find Ogden very hit or miss. Like someone else said, the people there, specifically the 5pm crew, are super cliquey. There's also been an unneutered dog going recently, and while he's not aggressive, the fact that he's unneutered sets the other dogs off in the park.

To give you (or someone else) the background on the politics thing... Chicago politicians argued so long for the World's Fair that it became known as the windy City because the politicians were long winded...
