I don’t need to justify anything I made a mistake while trying to learn how to do something.
It’s not a custom application it’s supposedly how all flats are built

I mean next door is empty, it’s a brand new block of flats we are the second people to move in and the first are on the ground floor

Yeah I was using these I guess where the bolt was too long it pushed against the breeze block and fucked the drywall

A stud finder wouldn’t have made any difference here, the cabinet has two fixing points. If it’s mounted central to the sink those brackets are nowhere near any studs you can hear that by knocking.
All a stud finder is going to do is tell me where the studs are that I can’t mount to.
And given that this is the only cabinet I’ve ever had to or ever will mount to a semi external wall like this there’s no point spending money on one

I’ve got a picture of the damage but not the whole area, I’m not there at the moment I’ve had to drive like 10 minutes away just to get internet signal

I am pretty irritated. I went from having never touched a spanner to being a race mechanic because I rebuilt a bike I’m a firm believer in learning by doing.
She has no interest in doing anything like this and expects me to do it all yet if I do something wrong I get it in the neck it’s actually bullshit

The problem is I’m not sure if I’m allowed to drill into the breeze block because it’s between me and next door

I don’t mind true drywall but this is drywall and then 20mm air gap with breeze blocks behind it so literally nothing works

But then we’ve got to repair the wall itself and it’s just such a ball ache

Ah no, there’s a cover over the sewer pipes behind the toilet that’ll make one of those difficult to put up, the fact everything is on show would drive her nuts too that’s the only reason we are getting this cabinet instead of a mirror, she wants to remove all evidence of someone living there

Won’t the fact that it’s mounted so far back make it weaker? It’ll be like hanging the cabinet on a lever?

I became a race mechanic because I started off by fucking around rebuilding a motorbike having never touched a spanner before.
I am all for learning and doing jobs myself but not if it’s going to lead to me getting it in the neck because I’ve done something wrong while learning honestly if I hear her say ‘why are you doing that if you don’t know what you’re doing’ once again I’m getting in my car and driving until I run out of gas.
Also there’s so much more that can go wrong with home maintenance, like I’ve just fucked the wall, that’s now however many hundreds to get someone out the year out that bit of plasterboard, install a new bit, plaster and paint and then another hundred or so to get someone to mount the fucking thing, it’s just not worth the risks

You can’t get to the breeze blocks because they’re about 20mm behind the plasterboard, you’d need to remove the plasterboard to get to the breeze block before re plastering jt

She insisted on a cabinet, I said I’d prefer a mirror that way the fittings wouldn’t need to hold so much weight, or even better could have used a sticky back mirror and then wouldn’t have needed any fittings

Yeah I guess it depends on the usecase, personally I don’t really use the FN key but for those that do it would 100% make more sense
