Yeah their motivation was mainly money. That said, everyone who already had an iPhone could just continue using their existing charging setup. There were a lot of people saying this move forced everyone to buy a separate charging brick anyway, which is false.
In the long term, I absolutely support not including a brick in the box.

True. But in spite of those people, the overall upgrade cycle for iPhones is still longer than for other smartphones. Slightly outdated source but still: https://9to5mac.com/2019/02/08/four-year-smartphone-upgrades/

Sure. But pointing out that price gouging exists does not make the case that current GDP growth is the result of price gouging. That’s what I’m saying.

I think you’ve got a really really long way to go from the egg situation to making the case that GDP growth as a whole is solely the result of price gouging lol

The accepted defition of a recession is pretty clear. We have not seen two consecutive quarters of GDP decline, so it's not a recession.
And while the layoffs are concerning, the economy added 500k net jobs in January. We may well be in a recession soon, but we're really not right now.

Sure. But idk why people think headlines like these are evidence of that. A product selling less than the year before happens all the time. In fact, it's expected to happen periodically during recessions (not that we're in one now).

You have made those changes though? Do you eat meat? Live in single family housing? Spend a meaningful portion of your income on nonessentials? Have energy intensive hobbies such as PC gaming?
Those are the kinds of sacrifices I'd expect someone who is saying "not wanting to bike in the snow will be the end of us" to have already made.

> The sensible ones of us know that the real polluters and wasters is big business who have done a very effective job of convincing the public they need to recycle when we all know that waste is their #1 product.
That’s not sensible though, that’s also just shifting the blame. Those businesses are producing goods/services for us. The emissions required to manufacture a TV you bought is a part of your carbon footprint. The emissions generated by the banking system or by Reddit servers etc are also part of our carbon footprints.

That’s if you use emissions from all “light duty vehicles”. They break it down further in the pdf, for “passenger cars” it’s more like 9%. I think the 11% was assuming you add some portion of light duty trucks to that as well but I don’t quite remember.
I’m not saying 11% +/- isn’t significant. But the transition to EVs and renewables is already going to dramatically reduce that number. So perhaps it would be more productive if Reddit devoted half as much energy as they do to cars to other sources of emissions.

You say that as though you think cars are the primary cause of climate change. Even in a very car dependent place like the US, personal vehicles only make up like 11% of total CO2 emissions. EVs will lower that significantly. I think a lot of people are hyper-focusing on cars and ignoring many of the much bigger problems. Comfortable western lifestyles are incredibly carbon intensive in general, even in the Netherlands.

I'm sure you can do it. I just don't want to lol. I'm guessing not many people in the US would choose the bike over a warm car during the winter.

Not to mention the fact that, unlike most of the US, the Netherlands is extremely flat and has a pretty mild climate.

Yes, but the "loss" is money coming out of people's taxes. So you definitely still want to know whether it's breaking even or how much it's short by.

Doesn't sound like you really know what he does, to be fair. He's one of the OG tech youtubers. If you've looked up a smartphone review on youtube sometime in the last 10 years, you've probably seen his content come up. I just find it hard to believe that anyone who is even slightly interested in technology hasn't heard of him. This is like someone who is into pc hardware never having heard of Linus Tech Tips.

You clearly have no clue who this guy is lol. Yes, he’s a very well rounded person. He runs one of the biggest and oldest tech YouTube channels around. He’s got a degree in business. He’s respected in the tech world to the point that he’s been given one-on-one interviews with people like Bill Gates, Satya Nadella, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Craig Federighi. Google invited him to the 2022 Met Gala.
If you followed tech even a little, you’d know who he is.

Ok, but that's exactly the impression your first comment gives. If you're buying $200k machines at work, why are you saying that anyone who buys a $50k computer is dumb?
I highly doubt anyone who is buying $50k editing machines is actually surprised by the depreciation. MKBHD, the person this comes from, is a very competent tech reviewer who was absolutely aware. The point of this tweet was not to complain.
