Ok that's a hell of a corner case you linked to though, from 34 years ago, I cannot imagine that being representative, it reminds me of people "ODing" on non-lethal medications in "suicide attempts" that were never going to work out. It's easier to get a useful firearm in than it is to Jerry rig something gun like once, and that person did it twice.

14nm is about 10 years behind current gen.

When the Soviet Union started producing their own silicon they were about 10 years behind as well, starting with technology acquired from the West , but that distance grew as western companies outpaced the Soviet ability to copy what the west had already done and acquire new technology in efforts to catch up.

Question is whether the Chinese can invent their own smaller nodes entirely domestically. Only then is there any hope at all that they'll ever be competitive.

Statistically intuitive: lots of first time gun buyers, coupled with a decrease in access to training.

Even in the best of times, there's a ton of friction in both running training courses and getting training, and that's for people who want it. That's to say nothing of people who simply might encounter one, without knowing anything at all about how to handle one safely (e.g. handling one they come across in someone's home)

Was not aware of this, was aware of spectrum squatting happening in the past.

Point is noone else was using the spectrum, it wasn't like they were stepping on another station's broadcasts. Whole point of the system is to ensure that this is fundamentally what happens -- not to gatekeep and make it cost-prohibitive for anyone but large companies who bought up a ton of small stations in the past. I mean it is once politicians with donors get involved, but it's not supposed to be that way.

According to the chart there were around 22,000 deaths during construction... That's around 1% of Qatar's non-migrant population, and I suspect the number of migrants did not exceed the local pop. Even if it's off by 10x, 2,000 would be obscene for any modern construction project (merely) assembling buildings on Earth's surface.
