Hearsay and based on sources I don't have links for am, but if you increase base staff pay, that comes out of shareholder dividends. If you're having to "emergency allocate" budget for travelers, your hospital is eligible for compensation from DC.

I don't know how accurate it is, but it's the kind of fucked-the-fuck up that makes sense in the last, oh, forty years or so.

I graduated a Vermont high school, top ten, with two UVM alumni as parents, in 96. With a scholarship to deal with room/board, it was cheaper to go to a school in Texas. Without the finaid packages, it (edit) would not have (/edit) been cheaper to go to UVM for a semester than it was to go to the Texas school for a year.

That is all to say, UVM's tuition is not a new problem.

4.5-5, to JFK, mostly because getting through the City is a pain in the ass. EWK and LGA are easier to get to.

But yeah, ALB's under two hours, MHT's just over, and BDL's 2.5 hours. For all its other wonders, Rutland's pretty much in the middle of a lot of choices.

It depends on where OP is.

If they're an hour down I89, down by Bethel and Royalton, then yeah, Boston may be better.

If they're down US7, they're south of Middlebury near Salisbury. Rutland, surprisingly, is time-equidistant to BOS and YUL (discounting the border), so they'd have to add on the 30-minute "get to Rutland" bit. And this time of year, a lot of the east-west gaps can get dicey, if they're open at all, so skipping over to I-89 on 73 or 125 may not be an option.

I'm in Rutland, and between AT&T and Verizon, it's "do you like blue or red better"? They're pretty much the same. When I checked a few years ago, T-Mo wasn't great, and Sprint was unreliable and getting worse.

Probably switching to a CU, either Heritage or whichever survives from the VSECU/NEFCU merger.

When I saw that during the changeover that Murderers & Thieves wasn't going to be able to transition over People's transaction records, I knew we were in for a show. (And then transitioning my card was an actual experience that proved my guess.) Their website is clunky as hell, I haven't even tried authenticating into the app, and I'm mortally offended that their account login only offers SMS and email as 2FA, rather than an actual number generator.

Yes, but it'll also require zoning changes in a number of towns (good luck), and significant inspection and minimum standards so that you're not sleeping in a "converted" sugar shack (and gods bless).

I'm on my second Subie, and have had regular commutes over the hills on Rtes 4, 7, and 103. My tire change appointment is next week.

Maybe if you're only driving in the urban areas of Champlain or Upper Valleys you could get away without snows, maybe Brattleboro or just Bennington.
