Some facades are actually bearing walls. The houses on my block have the floor span between party walls but the roof span front-to-back. You need an architect and maybe an engineer involved.

Chances are, a skilled contractor can do it themselves, but the liability involved is too high.

Part of the trouble is capitalism as it currently exists. If these areas are "improved," the jobs going in will still mostly be blue-collar/service jobs with limited wages and advancement opportunities. We're not suddenly going to build lawyers and doctors. The desperation that comes from current-age capitalism will still exist. Selling drugs or resorting to other crime may still pay better than the jobs that come from development. You've improved the neighborhoods, great, but even with solidly middle-class incomes, will there be enough local demand for goods and services to sustain the local businesses?

The solution will likely need to be mixed income residential (which is seemingly impossible to achieve organically) or dense commercial that is a cross-city attraction (East Passyunk, Fairmount, Fishtown, etc.).

Even when the alert happened, the city said that dishes could be washed in the water - just not directly consuming it.

Sounds like bars and breweries will be open, though, plastic cups and tanks filled with water before midnight.

I just missed the chance to get on the BFB from 95 North (Callowhill left exit). I had to go up to Betsy Ross and come back down south.

At that time they completely closed 95 south from Girard to 676. Why...?

Honor the fallen office, but use city streets, not highways during rush hour. We can collectively mourn without being late and losing money.

That's not our culture anymore.

And I agree with your above statement, but if parents are working multiple jobs, then they may have less time/ability to be active in their children's lives.

There were always be the cloud of personal responsibility hanging over everything, but when the system is stacked against success...
