I'm a student so we're single income and we just kind of agree to be responsible with money so far. If it comes to a serious disagreement we'll have to come up with a more official allowance system.

I would argue though that since we only recognize matrilineal descent and we don't differentiate between descendants of converts it's a religious definition and not a tribal one. You cannot tell if someone is Jewish (according to Orthodox Jewish standards) by DNA. Maybe their great-great-great-great grandmother converted- and if that conversion was valid, and they can prove direct female descent, they're 100% Jewish.

As an Orthodox Jew, my personal impression is that the race idea is almost entirely externally imposed- once people are persecuted for having "Jewish blood", it's kind of awkward to tell them outright that we really don't care if their father was Jewish.

Ugh someone on one of my Thanksgiving flights literally did this with a WhatsApp call right behind me the whole time. I asked him to shut up multiple times but he didn't and it's not like I could have taken him in a fight...

I'm in recovery for atypical anorexia, I'm 100% aware of that- I'm just thinking practically how much immediate danger OP's friend is in. She needs medical care obviously.

How much did she weigh to start with? That doesn't make mathematical sense unless she has the weight to lose (not that this isn't a serious medical issue, but she won't starve that way which is important to know).

What did your wife previously do for work? If it's just being wheelchair-bound, most desk jobs should be possible (although obviously unfairly harder to get/keep than if she were able-bodied).
