No specific suggestions, but are there any chinese caterers around you? Someone used to catering might be more inclined to do a special order, or might be more used to special requests? I don't know, you've probably already thought of this. Good luck. Onion allergy sounds awful.

The salt helps keep your nice, freshly-shoveled driveway from icing over once the snow has stopped, and helps the remainders melt more quickly in the sun. But it's not going to melt 6 inches of snow. Plus you don't want to dump it all in your yard if you can help it.

The plow trucks use it, but they're also using sand and plowing.

For early morning flights with snow predicted, I've occasionally done "park, sleep, fly" where you spend the night at a nearby hotel and park free for a week. But I'm far enough away (and hate driving in the snow at 4 in the morning) that it makes a difference. Ymmv
