>Lol if he (his company) can revolutionize space travel with a pet project... that's pretty damn good.
Absolutely - it is just not visionary. For somethign to be visionary i has to be novel 6 somewhat non-trivial . Musk literally just said "I will show it those aeronautic engineers!!" and then paid money for people to develop concepts.

Nice and dandy, not visionary.

PS: No,- spaceX existing isn't critical for the USA, it is symptomatic for the neo-liberal USA. Pushing development to private companies with hidden subventions is simply a suboptimal solution.

yeah, and spaceX only exists because Musk thought that Russian aerospace engineers where disrespectful to him. The whole thing was a pet project out of spite and not vision.

In all seriousness: In what way was Musk a true visionary?

Sounds wrong but it would be a grave disservice to the UNA bomber to put them in the same boat as those guys. The UNA bomber is one of the weirdos out there.

misguided or simply out of options?
If I was a dutch youth and knew that my country (arguably the best prepared in the world) basically will start to give up land from the next two decades onwards I would be properly scared.
I'm almost 40 so there is a good probability that I will be dead when that particular chicken comes home to roost but everyone younger than 20 will indeed see very "exciting" times.

that you can do with 4 mill. There is absolutely no sensible reason to ever have more than a few million dollars.
And, just accept it, some people don't want to enrich themself on the work of other people. I believe in the value of work, and thus I deem getting rich off stock options as asocial.

No, that,my friend, is why i'm happy with my life and i can enjoy football.
I don't invest in Clubs just as i don't buy slaves :)
I've got a job, a house and have financial security for about 12 months - why should i chase after more money?

Yeah, or ManU drops down to the second league and is worth little if anything.
Using sports Clubs as an investment vehicle is imho both everything that is bad about modern football and rather risky

Because the majority of football Clubs are not for Profit. Actually most Fans sneer at the idea of a for profit club. Or buying a club

Reply to Replacing big lamp transformer by Arkenys
a) it is a ballast
b) it was produced in germany, I found only this page (https://houben.eu/index.php/arnold-houben-gmbh/produkte/houben-lichttechnik/betriebsgeraete/fuer-leuchtstofflampen/elektromagnetische-vorschaltgeraete/elektromagnetische-steckervorschaltgeraete-230-v-mit-kabel) where they list a very similar product
c) I would go with LED in almost all cases

You could simply buy a lamp like eg https://www.beleuchtung-mit-led.de/osram-4058075558106-led-lampe-dulux-d-stablampe-g24d-1-6w-600lm-warmweiss-3000k-wie-13w.html?refID=10 throw it in and if it works you can do away with your ballast

that would be my guess. A whole lot of phds/post-docs need fortran and those are usually badly paid.

ed: I would love to see more datapoints for Julia as it fits right into the same area.
Fortran Julia Python R Matlab and a whole massive group of postdocs which work in areas which touch about all of these languages

pretty curious chart. Eg the differences between Fortran and Cobol: Fortran is certainly more common in a daily usage (in the scientific community) but pays significantly less than Cobol which to my knowledge is only used in mainframes...

The depressing part is that my programming skills would put me at twice the income in the USA ^^

I only ran a half Marathon once but i didn't train went out drinking the day before and am a smoker. I only ran because a friend got sick and asked me to run in her stead. I planned to stop after 5 or 10k but there was this guy with this timeflag in front if me so i just followed.
Long Story short: when my body started to tell me that He really wasn't in the mood anymore i was a Kilometer away from the finish line, so i finished...and spend the next month cursing my decision because everything hurt.
Anyway, i got offtrack because i misunderstood your debate: those time people are people which comfortably can run these times. So for sure a 3hr timesetter can run far below 3hrs

Aside of i being done in the 50s by russians and NASA having a working prototype ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_DC-X

But I meant a completely different point: Do look at the acomplishments in the 50s/60s and you will see the actual inventors/engineers being lauded for their visionary ideas. And now look at the last 20 years and you will see the managers/CEOs being lauded for the visionary ideas of their engineers.
So:
>Does it not require a vision to believe you can not only enter, but revolutionize an existing 'cutting edge' industry?
If I would believe that Elon Musk did any part of development I could accept "visionary" (somehow..) but as it is Musk seems to have about nothing to do with the development of SpaceX except being a posterboy for money. And no, this isn't what I call visionary because kids since the 19th century dreamed of flying to Mars....
