I listen to alternative, rock, electronica, world, folk, ska, and many things other than pop. I was so out of touch with what constitutes mass market music now-a-days that I actually had to ask Alexa to play a few Taylor Swift tunes the other day just to keep me in the loop. Hadn't really heard her. I know ... I live under a rock

Great points. Thanks for doing the legwork. Including the unfunded pension and benefits information would seem, from an accounting standard, to be the more honest, accurate and frightening figure. Also certainly makes me concerned as a condo owner in NYC!

I'm not sure why this would surprise anyone. There is no technology that any country's military or politicians would not consider weaponizing. It's just the way of the world - nations cannot afford to ignore technology that their competitors may be utilizing at their expense. Unless doing so is expressly covered in a treaty (e.g. chemical weapons)- and even then several nations will very likely still pursue it covertly.

This also by no means conflicts with an interest in developing the ability to counter the technology. Most nations will want to do both to enhance their own offensive capabilities while playing defense against others.

Agree. Like probably many people who enjoy beer, I considered (briefly) starting a brewery but the market is just so over saturated today that it's nearly pointless to get into it. Not too many good ways to differentiate yourself today. Sure you could make a niche living, but the days of starting a brewery that had a strong possibility of growing to a significant size are piratically over. I'm not saying that it's impossible (much as becoming a famous Hollywood celeb or best selling author aren't impossible) just highly improbable

I like the fact that Mr Vorhees took this very very personally and decided to get into a flame war with not just you, but another innocent bystander who chimed in to try to explain that it was a general comment about a group that gives bikers a bad name and not a comment about all bikers on earth.

Whoa - as a NYC transplant I just want to point out that some people move down here for other reasons. I have a mother who is getting on in years that I wanted to be closer to. And many of us NYC transplants haven't always lived in NYC so we can appreciate the differences between a huge city and a cool smaller city (there are pros and cons) without exclusively harping on the cons.

I mean, I absolutely appreciate the low cost of living, being able to get anywhere in the city in 30 minutes, being able to join a Y and swim for $50 a month, being able to walk into a Walmart and buy whatever I want and then getting lost, being able to access a super-cool river right in the city center, etc. I also feel like there are just as many breweries and some great restaurant options here as well.

I'm assuming that you have more people in this sub in the "renting" stage of their lives than the investment / landlord stage of their lives. So naturally they'll be hostile to any argument like this because they don't anticipate what it will be like when they're actively looking for ways to grow their wealth for retirement. I'm with you 100% and many of them will be in 20 years ... but not today :)

I lived in NYC for 15 years before moving to Richmond 2 months ago. I've asked many people there where they would like to retire or which city they would prefer moving to if they could move anywhere and often I get a look like I have two heads. Why would you live anywhere other than New York?

Well this just sent me down a rabbit hole of like 6 pages of this guys history. My sense is that he's probably legit. Seems like he bounces around between a car, maybe a cheap hotel, other unknown. Occasionally does ask for help like a meal but doesn't look like anything outlandish. And also appears to spend free time watching sports and surfing Reddit so must have access to a TV and computer - probably public. Occasionally seems to fall for money scams. I honestly don't think this dude is a grifter but I still wouldn't trust someone I hadn't met with space in my home.
